Thread: Shaving in Public

Anyway like some of the other guys said, people will just be annoying you with questions etc and it's just not an area which lends itself to a comfortable shave I know I like to be alone and in peace when I shave as it is more relaxing. I like being in the privacy of my own home. And for some reason I like to shave in the evening or b4 bed. I rest really well and it lasts until after work the following day. Then I'm ready to shi+, shower, and shave once again. Also as an electrician I do a ton of sweating at work so resting is greatly easier after feeling completely clean and clean shaven. I guess I would do it different if I showered in the am. But I can't stand being sticky and dirty while I relax and my wife would kill me if I got near our bed b4 showering. Not that I would get in my bed b4 showering anyway. But there are times I come in so tired I can't hardly get in my front door before collapsing on top of my bed with my boots and all on and I don't wake up, even if she tries waking me or even tries to give me some, until the next day.

I am shaving at the gym, been doing so for several years. I prefer to shave at home but when I do go for a work-out, I shave there. Initially, I've used a DE or an SE, now I also do use straights there. I keep a paddle strop in my locker, alongside with averything else as I am not carrying it around. Most guys there at that time of the day are regulars and we bother each other not too much anyway.

We have a little in common it seems.....I chose my Forum name for a reason and it wasn't because I wanted to sound like a comic book character.

For the record, I remember some dude shaving (his face) in the gym, stark naked, in front of a mirror with legs spread wide apart. Put me off gyms for a while and changing rooms... Oh and he was using an imitation razor, known as a Mach 3. At least I think it was...

As for "converting" people. When I first started wet shaving with a straight, I took it on holiday and shaved with it at my grandmother's home. She was so fascinated, she called in some friends and a couple of relatives. One of the relatives, an elederly dude who always shaved with a DE (and still does), was sat not too far from me holding his face with both hands in astonishment. Can't remember how many times he shouted "be careful" at the top of his voice. I managed to shave without any trouble at all that day and offered to shave him afterwards. He ran away to smoke a cigarette...

I know it's wrong...but every time I see or hear a reaction about straight razors like that...I just can't help but think...WIMPS !

Okay, am I the only one that kept thinking of this famous scene with all the "ball-washing" comments in this thread?

I shave at the gym with my straight razors probably 3 times a week. Quite a few times an old codger has stopped and commented positively about my carrying on the old ways.

Nearly every one of the guys at your gym shaves or has shaved.. at whatever frequency works for them, so what could possibly be weird about it?

I say do it.

Only thing that would stop me is 1) not enough room to put my kit down 2) the management asking me not to 3) there's only one sink.

But You are a lucky man, as You've got the straight with You. Just cut them off and You should be able to get them cleaned easily.
