Thread: Shaving in Public

My only comment being to check local laws, and guidelines. While I live in an area with very liberal weapons laws ("a regular hunting knife or pocket knife..." are exempt from concealed weapons laws) a straight razor is considered a weapon under local case law. Therefore having a straight razor on your person in a public area may or may not get you into legal trouble depending on the perceptions of the arresting officer.
Plus I enjoy my quiet "Daddy time" shaves and do not necessarily appreciate interruptions. Plus, I'm still learning so I want to be able to concentrate on shaving and nothing else while I do so.

Thanked: 37Wow! interesting. I guess it really depends on the law, and wether it's crowded. I have taken a straight to work and retouched, only. To the pool I go to, I would take a DE. Too many people, possibility of accidental beheading because someone bumped me while passing by, etc. That really would depend on the space. If it's safe, uncrowded, no hurry-up attitude, it might work.

Thanked: 1185So if you're going to shave out in public I'd recommend wearing one of these:
That should keep the looky Lou's at bay and enable you to shave in peaceThe older I get, the better I was

Thanked: 1184I never have a reason to shave outside the den but if I did I wouldn't hesitate. Someone bumping into me while I was making a pass would be my only concern and, shame on me for giving that a chance to happen. If a cop started asking me about it being a weapon I would polity and jokingly mention the fact that I also have a loaded brush and bowl of ammo for it at the ready. There maybe old laws on the books about straights being weapons and for the same reason I never shoot rabbits off the trolly in downtown L.A.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Having done the job for a long time, I can't imagine a police officer caring one bit whether you used a straight in public. They would be as fascinated that straights are still being used, as most people are.

I don't shave at the gym, per se, but being deployed and on trips frequently, I often have to shave in a communal bathroom. I do get a lot of stares and a lot of guys who are clearly trying not to stare but not being very good at it. I also get some questions, but mostly comments about my "bravery" and the size of certain anatomical parts that are classically related to "bravery" (especially when I'm on my neck). Generally speaking, I haven't had any problems with getting bumped, but the sinks are oriented in rows: I can keep an eye on the people around me using the mirrors. It's not nearly as relaxing as shaving at home, but it works and shaving is still fun.

Well Gents - I DID IT!!
It was... unremarkable lol. I was there at a non-peak hour it seems, and only one dude walked by me the whole time I was there. Moreover, I don't think he even looked at me lol. We have seemingly weird locker room rules here - it's as if the dude two feet away from you doesn't exist lol. I guess its better than the opposite being true....
The shave itself was great!! BUT>>>
Something about it just didn't seem "sanitary?" I began to think of all the... "GOLF BALLS" that might have rested there in that sink AND... yeah, that killed it lol!!
THANKS PigHog lol!!David
