Back in the day they were top notch! Mine came with a 9V and 12V battery and they could both be charged on the same charger.
I"m sure that I'm not the only one who for some unknown reason receives catalogs etc in the mail that weren't requested and for products that I've never used and one of those was from a place that specialized in Square Drive Screw/some of which were like 18" long and were used to screwing rail road ties together for landscaping. Anyway, they gave a listing of what kind of 'power' you wild need to drive the screw/at the time 24V was the largest battery driven.
Those 18" screws were pretty cool as if memory serves the threads were like 1/4" but the shank was only like 3/16" and they were Stainless Steel. I do believe that the 24V was recommended to drive them.
10 Pups sent me a PM telling me where I might find a better deal on the Great Grandson of my old friend but I'd already purchased one online but I'm trying to cancel that order. I'll let pups know how it all comes out!
This is probably the #1 reason that I enjoy this age old art and SRP in particular and that is (MHM)

Thanked: 4206MHM, one of the best aspects of this bunch for sure, hands down, no debate!
When it comes to old ni-cad batteries, you can refresh them if you fully discharge them every now and then.
By that I mean you need like a 500 ohm resistor across the poles to fully kill its memory. Than a full charge and repeated full discharge will wipe it, refresh it, and 9-10 times rekindle its capacity.
Ni-cads are unique in that they develop a charge memory that must be reset at a lower discharge than just running the tool down will provide.
Good luck and hope you can keep it going. I have the same drill and will do what it takes to keep it alive.. They do not make them that well any more..

Thanks on the tip Mike, however it's not 'just the batteries' the old workhorse had that smell of dying when in use and it's time. I'm sure that I could find the new bushings, brushes etc to to keep it in service but I'm not convinced that he'd last that long after a rebuild anyway. But I do thank you for the info! :

Thanked: 4206Not in the mail per say but a nice treat when I got home from work tonight.
Couple of 4' x 4" African mahogany posts to play with. Seems full skids of the good stuff come in strapped to these gems and my dear son was able to bring them home for his elated papa to play with.
Mahogany brushes for everyone, hehe."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Since after 8 weeks of waiting, I was finally refunded for the Otto Deutsch Hans Solingen that succumbed to the grubby thieving fingers at the Global shipping center in Kentucky (strike 3 now to the dogs)
I decided to find a replacement no Otto as none have been close to the deal I would have got
So a full week this week
ShurEdge 6/8' Round pint t go with my spike point
unknown "Magnet Steel" 11/16" square point
Southington 6/8" Smiling Square point
Rochister 7/8" Vaciados Pousa square point with some Fili scales to get booted
a bottle of Andis Clipper Oil
some fancy 6" digital Stainless steel Vernier calipers, since I broke my dodgy plastic ones LOL
