New member here, new to cutthroat shaving. Been shaving for years with disposable straight-edges/Irish Spring. I wanted to jump into the "real" shaving arena. Fault me or encourage me, here's what I'm starting with...

--- Whipped Dog sight unseen razor + poor man's strop kit
--- Amazon: Van Der Hagen Men's Luxury Shave Set
--- Amazon: George Orwell, Animal Farm
    --- Amazon: George Orwell, 1984

I've read a lot of give and take on the sight-unseen. Not that I need to justify my purchase, but I honestly know diddly about the practical application of cutthroat razors. I figure this will give me an introduction and put a razor in my hand as a starting reference point. No interest in collecting, purely about shaving. Once I've been shaving a bit, I'll spring for a new blade based upon my experiences with the one I'm about to receive.

The strop kit to get me through until I can get some good whetstones.

The Orwell books have nothing to do with shaving (save slitting one's throat) but I've wanted to re-read them again for a long time.

I have two of those Whipped Dog sight unseens. One is my favorite and the other is my least favorite for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the shaves I get. I also started on the poor man's strop which is great for learning on. Let me make a small suggestion, though. The strop kit is to get you through until you get a better strop. Leave the stones alone until you get a good handle on everything else.

Good point, I should have written: "The strop kit to get me through until I can get a better strop and some good whetstones."

    Thanks!

Guy on craigslist tried straight razor shaving twice, couldn't get the hang of it. Selling his Boker and strop together. His loss my gain!

Those boxes are cool! Your's is in great shape!

So I have a grand parcel set to arrive from Canada. Another from England. A sweet American razor I have desired for a while is enroute as well. ....Christmas in August?

Two restored straights - a Wester Bros. and a W&B Special from Gemstar Custom Razors.
