Thread: What Do You Have In The Mail Right Now?

I was way more into honing when I was learning. Now that I have a system that I am confident in, it comes in waves. I will have a great time spending days honing and then I'm good for a while. However I must says it is never a chore, when I hone I always have fun with it.

Likely why I have not honed in a while!

Same here. But it's always nice to expand the options a little bit for when the next wave hits!

I actually have quite a few options and really should make an effort to spend some time learning some of my naturals. For a while I was really into figuring out all about the hones that I found in the real wild and at that point I neglected my cotis and eschews and goldfisch and charnley and I'm sure there are a few more. I do like the options but spend most of my time with two.

My favourite part of honing is putting the stones away.....

Once I've had a great shave with an edge I've put on myself...then I like honing.

Can I ever relate to this. You took the words right out of my mouth! I love to figure out puzzles and now that I have a consistent system with Arkansas stones my honing sessions come and go in waves. One reason I never hone for money is that I don't want to "have" to hone. I sit down when the spirit moves me and I enjoy myself. The odd razor that gives me trouble is a love-hate thing. I love a good puzzle but I hate the frustration of the puzzle at the same time. It's the challenge of the whole Straight Razor world that keeps me going. So many options from honing to shaving to restoration. Collecting, different stones, soaps, and brushes. These are just a few of the rabbit holes out there that I enjoy.

A Fili 14 JMP signature blade is on its way to its new home. This early JMP Doble Temple (early 1950s since no Made in Spain is on the tang reverse) with original Bakelite scales was well under $200, came with an original box, and had only a few minor spots of pitting. Needless to say at its price point and condition I jumped on it like a hungry hobo on a ham sandwich. Will have a light restoration done to address the pitting and get it shave ready.
