While it's not Razor Related, I just got two of these in the mail:
My old one seems to have grown legs and walked out of the Boars Nest so I ordered a replacement. They aren't as nice as my old one as they can't be changed from F to C and there's no 'Hold' button but they will work.
The first thing I did after unpacking them and making sure that the batteries were working was to perform two very important tests and those are the 'Boiling Water Test' and the 'Ice Test'.
I got a large saucepan to a full rolling boil and held both units side by side and placed them in about the middle of the boiling water. I noticed right off that one responded to the temperature change faster than the other and made a mental note. (While these types of thermometers are typically called 'instant read' they aren't 'instant' it takes a bit) anyway the one that responded the quickest read 212 deg and the other read 211.9. Not Bad!
So the ice test uses ice with very little water so I prepared the container and then plunged both units into it and again the one responded quicker than the other. However both read 32.9. Again Not Bad!
What this tells me is that both should be fairly accurate across the range that they will be testing.
I've marked the one that responded fastest and will use it day in and day out. The other will be a backup.
I hope this is informational for at least some.Last edited by cudarunner; 06-21-2017 at 11:44 PM.

Aloha!
Ordered a Horsehair shaving brush. I know that some brush aficionados say that Horsehair is a nice compromise between Badger and Boar. I had read that Horsehair brushes were the most popular until the Anthrax scare in Horsehair sometime in the late 1800s, early 1900s.
This will be my first Horsehair. Looking forward to it;
Also ordered a new Scuttle;
Both should arrive sometime next week.
