I have been waiting for someone else to ask what is it? So, can you explain what it is used for and how it is used?

    It's a pen! I think for calligraphy?

Totally lovely. Writing accoutrements from linen fibre paper to the finest waxes, go hand in hand with a Nakayama Maruka and a fine Damascus blade, with a raw ambergris based scent, touch of citrus and Tennessee lavender. My everyday 'pen' is a Lamy, my own blend of ink. I'm travelling, so no photo, but the aroma, well you might find it in Florence or Rome....

I had figured that it was some sort of a writing instrument, however there are a lot of technical drawing and writing devices out there that I know zero about.

Yes, for script that flows with more beauty than I can make flow from a pen.
Lovely example of a calligraphy pen Dave. Enjoy.

Nice pen! My handwriting is terrible, tried my hand at fountainpens but somehow the ink always spreads out like oil on a water surface. Doos one need a different paper for fountain pen and calligraphy pen ink?

It is very much like shaving with a straight Kees. Pen, paper, nib and ink are all variables, something you have to stick with for quite a while and very unforgiving. There is no spellcheck on a fountain pen, but they are fun.

    Thanks guys.
I have just recently got into writing with the dip pen and love it. Thanks to the help I've gotten from of few fellas here

HERE is a thread about Fountain pens Kees.

When using a fountain pen you need a very light hand my friend. There is no need for pressure as the ink flows out easily, not like a rollerball pen which requires a heavy hand to keep it moving.
I am left handed, which makes it a bit more challenging. But to me that's part of the fun.

A 4 pack slurry stone for coti (wanted a combo slurry stone and 4 pack had it for same price as selected one but now I have other options so yay?) and a light green vintage Thuri bout. The bout is really square and is about 2.5"x5.2" or so
