That's really nice Oz, I think the blackbutt I have and the Ironbark will get that effect happening very nicely, even the Oregon maybe, I really love the Oregon. There is a Grade called First Clears (or something Clears) which is entirely heartwood with no knots or imperfections and I'd love to get some, especially some of the colder climate stuff that is slower growing so the grain is very dense.

Currently they are at 3mm (just under 1/8" which is 3.1mm). I also have some joined pine which I thought would look really good with some paint to hide the joins in the timber and a gloss finish. I got the idea after seeing some Red Imp razors.

I'll get some close up photos of each

As to finish. If you want to go with a satin oil finish you could use linspeed oil or varnish oil (made by tried and true finishes) which is basically the same thing as linspeed. It is a polymerized linseed oil. Linseed alone will not dry. It stays wet forever. Either of these two options will harden. I use them for my oil finishes and gunstocks and knife finish. There is always Danish oil as well. Watch out for the rosewood family of woods like cocobolo. The natural oil content in the wood is so high most finishes will never cure. They will stay gummy forever and make a mess. For that I use a catalyzed urethane or epoxy which is a chemically hardened finish.

Those handles you have made for the coffee gear are amazing. The look really great with the stainless of the metal parts on the machines and hoppers. Very classy.
