Thanked: 8Of course I'll pass on the knowledge, and I'm sure I'll be in contact regularly. Yeah I use shaptons primarily, one of those there, is a king. It's the 6k. I just really like way the king hone feels. Real creamy and smooth. It's pretty soft tho, so it's wearing down quite fast.

So here is what I did . Fought the whole way. New TIs are rock hard steel.
So when you can post pictures like mine.
Up close and show it lengthwise, remember that many people are watching and trying to learn.
They are learning from this thread.
My bevels are not perfect either. But I did it. So did you. You are one step closer to being self sufficient.
That is priceless.
I look forward to seeing your black scaled pipe razor. If you have questions or need help, shout, because thats what we do.
We never close. Come and help you no matter what. Its part of what we do. Just give us a minute, and remember slow and steady has the sharpest edge. Wet shaving and speed shaving arent the same. Everything we do comes from a slower time. Enjoy the shave.
You did really good for your first hone session.
Shaved with mine and it was spectacular.
Really PM me through my private email to discuss what we can do to ensure your successLast edited by ultrasoundguy2003; 01-11-2016 at 03:01 AM.
Your only as good as your last hone job.

Thanked: 8Thanks! It actually is coming along nicely, it feels like. The edge itself is nice and keen. Passed the hht almost without any ........uh....violin? It's definitely popping them very nicely. My next one, I'll try to take better photos. I only have my phone camera to use, or my wife's. Hers is probably a better camera so I'll use that one and get better shots for the guys. More to come! !

Do you have a strop yet?
Dont buy one just yet.
Please lets talk about what you need, and your learning curve.
Oh and dont buy CrOx. I have enough for all of us.

Thanked: 8I'm not sure what crox is? I kind of have a strop. It's basically home made. It's like three tier. One layer of leather, one layer of denim, and a third layer of thick cotton linen. I think it works pretty decent...hard telling to be honest. It's funny you say that about the happy wife. I'm constantly going to great lengths so that she doesn't get mad and start griping about all the accessories I get.lol! ! Someone in the forum said I had R.A.D before...I didn't know what that meant and had to ask! Couldn't be more true. Could be worse things to blow money on I guess!

Thanked: 8I don't want to seem cheap. I just enjoy making things is all. I'm a carpenter and build developments, and all types of steel structures all over the countryside....It's in my nurture to be crafty! !

So I am a carpenters son. So you are a kindered soul.
CrOx is a paste that you put a dot on a linen strop. It is .05 micron in partical size. On a completely seperate linen strop you apply it and it will keen up your edge. Over do it and you get a wire brush edge. Dont cross contaminate regular strop and CrOx strop. When new it is a great equalizer in sharpness. Down the road its considered a cheat to a good edge. Now your legal to use it.

Jonathan, you did a great job! BTW, that is a nice TI & I love the Rams horn scales. For our friend here, Dramadon3151, he can use a butterknife to practice stropping for now. That way when he does get a nice new strop, he hopefully won't cut the leather or dull a good edge at the same time.
Great lesson my friend!
