Here's a couple problematic pipe razors I've obtained from various online places. Due to uneven hone wear on the spine I can't seem to get them to a very comfortable shaving edge.




You can see in the photos that there's almost the exact polar opposite hone wear on the differing sides of reach razor.

Half the problem is the stabilizer is in the way. This will require a lot more attention on the heal end or raising the stabilizer. Your going to have a tall bevel on the toe end unless you do some special thinning which will take forever. Looks like your going to learn some hone gymnastics but only after you raise the stabilizer.

How do I raise the stabilizer? Just hone it out?

Ok you just met my Mentor. So the long way is to hone the stabilizer in circles till its rubbed down.
The easy button is to get out the dremmel and put a cylinder stone in it. Hold the razor in your left hand with the blade facing up and GENTLY reshape the shoulder till its lower. Grind it we are going to rehone the blade once we get the geometry right.
First, you need to place your razor on a true flat(hone) and look at how high that shoulder(stabilizer) is in the way. The blade will look like a frown. Remove the stabilizer a bit and post a pic.

Ok. I have a dremmel with the cylinder...drum sander attachment. I'm going to give it a try.

Stone Stone Stone, I never tried the sander. Oh my please let this go well.

i have a razor that the stabilizer is in the way so i just don't hone that part of the blade. it will be years till it shows. it was a gift so i don't feel brave enough to sand it away. i'll worry about it when it starts to show.

Oh man I'm glad you sent those photos because I was actually starting to grind away the stabilizer, not the heel post of the shoulder! !
