Glad to hear you’re sticking with it. These naturals are hard to get the hang of. I know I’ve had a hell of a time. It’s taken months to get to where I can shave off one of my edges(been living off of the razors Victor honed up for me). In the last week tho it’s finally happening. They are not quite as good as Victor’s, but my last two shaves have had no sting from the alum. The big thing that helped me was the Dr. Matt method. Now they are coming out great. My offer still stands for the naturals. I’m at 6 coti and 3 for sure thuris. Plus a few more in the finishing range. Good luck!

    Glad to hear that Jerry!!

Tom, Sharptonn, got me into the stropping progression after I got the Lipshaw from him. Off the stones and strop away. Then just my standard daily stropping after that. It does seem to be true, that the stropping does smooth the edge out for that fine shave we all seek

Sure glad to hear it helped you out my friend

The coticule had little to nothing to do with it....after 600 passes you should have achieved a convex microbevel...the angle you hold your blade should have increased for optimum cutting...the edge should last you @ 10 shaves....
    my 2 cents

Well, I just finished up a small restore and set bevel then up to 8k. Then the Coti. I started to feel the sticking! Kept at it with more water running for another 20-30 passes. Stopped it up and then tried the HHT. Not very good. About a HHT1 or 2. I'll still give it a test shave but will need to wait till tomorrow. Anyway, Its getting closer to starting to get a sense of what going on. Long way to go but at least I'm starting to make progress.

As far as the Convexed micro-bevel, I understand what your saying. But I had to start somewhere. And if its progress I'm happy.

BWH1980, thanks for the offer again. You never know when I might hit you up. But I've had 3 others offer to send me stones to play with too. What a great bunch of enablers, I mean folks we have here. Couldn't be happier to be a member of this grand forum!

Looking for that thin black line, where the two bevels become a perfect, polished edge. Smooooth

I've found that thin black line

But I now know the sound of a properly honed razor on my strop, thank you again Brother

    The Coti trip...
I took a German razor that had been finished on a 12K and went back to the 8K stone. Afterwards, I went to the Coti and did around 70 laps under running water. 50 laps on linen and 75 on one leather then 75 on another leather. With the TPT it was close but not as good as I would normally like. The HHT it was about a 2 Went for a test shave and it was a good shave. Still felt lacking a bit but very close to what I'm looking for. I'm getting a good feeling on this, like if I can step it up just a touch more I might be on track to the finish Coti edge.
Just wanted to update my Coti adventure. Good things are just around the corner now. Too bad I got to go back to work tomorrow but who knows, maybe a coupe three more trys I might figure it out.

Once your have an edge that will shave you dial way back on the honing and stropping.

Four or five licks on the wet or lathered Coti then strop, five or ten on canvas and ten or twenty on leather.
The running water trick can work... with a light hand you will feel it stick and then you are done.

The logic is that the edge shaves and only needs a tiny tiny tiny improvement.

The canvas cleans the edge and spine before the leather more than anything else.

It is possible to do an 8k/12k pyramid honing cycle. There is a thread on the pyramid method here.
