I will check this next week. Slurry stone. But im mainly using water and feeling the lines in the stone. Ive been in contact with them this entire time. They might be getting tired of me so who know whats goi g to happen.
Might be trying a different finishing type stone in the near future and say the heck with the coti. Im not wanting to do more than finish after 12k anyways. We will see what the future holds.

You may want to try and sand a very thin layer off with very fine lapping paper see what happens. If you lay the sandpaper on a flat kitchen worktop you will be OK. That is how I lap all my hones before using them.

If you get frustrated with your stone, you can ship yours to me and i can ship one that produces excellent edges. I'll throw in a razor honed on the stone, so you know what you're shooting for.

He did the same for me, the razor he speeks of gives a incredible, Coti shave.

It helped set the bar, for me. But still, each stone reacts differently than the other, and I've figured out most of my coties.

Well thats an offer i cant refuse. It will need to wait until friday. Ill be in touch by PM. Maybe with your wisdom of Coties can figure out if this stone is good or just going to be cut up for slurry stones. That was my plan if i couldnt make it behave proper. Or run over it with 85000 lbs. At 75mph.

All fun aside, that would be very helpful in the learning process.

I am not sure I would want a slurry stone of a coticule that is useless.

Even though I know this offer is made with the best of intentions, I feel it's a bit premature.

Gasman, you mentioned you haven't really had the time to practice on your stone. Odds are that it's a perfectly functional coticule.

If you can't put in the time, a tested coticule won't necessarily make a difference; just because someone can get a good edge off a stone doesn't mean it will be any easier for you than with your current one (although it might help having some sort of honing "recipe").

Like I said, I feel it's a bit premature to write this coticule off as dysfunctional.

Of course people are free to seek whatever solution they deem best (stating the obvious, I know), I just feel it's a bit of a shame for a coticule to be written off like that.

Agreed, but it would be nice to positively remove that variable.
It helped me be able to dial the four in that I have, when the offer was extended to me.

I'm a little late to the conversation but Jerry you mention a gritty, bumpy feedback when honing, also noticeable sparkly bits in the surface. It sounds to me like it might be a Les Petas, which is (IMHO) is a difficult coti to learn on and not very representative of what most other coticules are like. I know that superiorshave had plenty Les Petas in stock not long ago, maybe you got one? That being said, I've read that many people can get a good edge from a Les Petas. I had one and sold it because I hated the gravel-like feedback.
