My small selected coticule produces a slurry easierand feels a lot softer. I'll have to try different combinations of rubbing stones. One good thing though, It is so long it doesn't have to be that abrasive to remove metal !!
I wish I lived near a pro, I could get them to evaluate the stone and give us the low-down on it..

Yeah tis a shame Howard aint from the UK.

Any bugger would do, just someone to look at it, run a razor over it and post what they think for all to see would be nice.
If I could get to Birmingham I'm sure a few members could give a good appraisal of the rock.

I spoke to Rob at Ardennes Coticule a couple of weeks ago. He said "a Coticule of this size is rare, if he was to have one for sale at this sort of size it would be at least 400 Euros".
If you really did want one this big, I supose you could ask him!!?? He only said "it's rare" not un-heard of!!
I'm going to keep mine, I just put an edge on a Taylors Eye-Witness 6/8+ that I would be pleased with if I had paid a pro to hone.
If I sell it, It will be offered through our BST section.

I wonder which mine it came out of and when? Which vein in the mine? I guess there is no telling. Also how old it might be. I have a natural coticule that I bought from a friend. It is 8"X3" and a great stone. It originally came from Howard at the Perfect Edge. I couldn't imagine a better hone yet I still want more That brings to mind what a fellow told me thirty years ago when I was avidly collecting pocket knives," If you can't be satisfied with what you have, you'll never be satisfied with what you get".
