Thanked: 293I've never gotten a good deal. I get killed left and right!
In all honesty, I think the only real deal I got was on a Puma 223 in great condition for 55 bucks. I think it'll probably re-sell for over $150 on eBay, but I can't decide what to do with it.

Well, my barber(now retired) gave me his old DoubleCut strop, a Red Imp and a Redpoint a few years back, but because there was no money or barter involved, I cant really call it a deal.

I bought an 8/8, Henckels Friodur on Ebay, The scales were sealed rosewood lined with perhaps aluminum. The scales had been done by Bill Ellis. The razor was absolutely mint! - I got it for $100.00
* I gave it to my neighbor, Eli, last year for Christmas. He has, since, quit straight razor shaving!

Thanked: 137I'd say that the best deals I've got have been those things that generous members here have given away. These include a free tube of TOBS Eton College SC from a vendor here - he didn't have any samples available when I enquired, but did have an extra tube he threw into my order gratis. I've also been given two King waterstones - 1K and 4K (depending where you buy from, these can cost up to $95 AUS each) - I got them for the price of postage, plus $5AUS. I've also been given a Shumate Electric Barber hone for the cost of postage, and a Dovo Best Quality and honing by Lynn for free, no postage or anything. Oh, and one member here threw a free razor into a job lot of three that I purchased to try out in my first purchase as I forayed into straight shaving.
Free stuff is great, but it's even better when it's given out of the goodness of someone's heart. To everyone who has given me or another member something gratis, thank you from the bottom of my heart, it's the generosity and community spirit (like the above examples) that I've found here that keeps me on this site (the razor pr0n doesn't hurt either though!).

A dubl Duck special no.1 from an Antique shop in NY. The guy there wanted 10$ for it and I offered 5, I got it and it was in good condition with a little bit of hone wear. Nice shaver!

I think the best deal I've gotten so far was my first razor. It's a Morley & Sons in mint condition and shaves like a dream. I got it for 1 dollar at an estate sale.
I've also been given and won items from generous members of the site but I wouldn't count them as deals.Last edited by Miner123; 04-20-2010 at 12:29 AM.

Several eBay coticules in the $30-$40 range, a boxed Escher with label and slurry stone for $40 from an antique store, and a blue green unlabelled Escher that came in a lot of eBay hones which also included a coticule, for about $37. I might add that for every great hone I got for low $$ I have gotten a useless stone or lot of junk. You pays your money and you takes your chances!
