    Wolfie!!!! How's it hangin'?

Both of us, been awhile...been down several different wormholes since we last posted - done with boots, watches (for now), getting my home gym setup, and now just finished building a powerhouse PC...twice.

    How's things on your end?

Really nice looking grinding there. What kind of equipment and abrasives are you using?

That was an 8” wheel. Started at 220 grit ao after setting a bevel and making sure the edge and spine were working together. Got the bevel nice and thin then walked through some ao belts up to 800. Then went to Trizact belts, A30, A16, A6. I give it a light buffing with chromium oxide on a loose cotton wheel afterward. I try not to change the look of the finish just round off the stria from polishing with the trizacts, I find it gives a little better rust resistance than just going straight off the belt and into service.

800, 1200, 2500 grit. much finer than I use regrinding razors. Expensive too. $42.00 for a set of 3 belts. What kind of life do you get from a belt?. Nice finish on the blade BTW.

On anther razor site a guy was arguing with me telling me that a tapered blade could not be hollow ground. I told him that any cutler worth his/her salt could do it no problem. I ended up just leaving the discussion rather than to continue argue about something that he clearly did not understand. Good on you John

Sounds very similar to what I do except I don't tend to buff at the end although I might try on a test blade now you mention improved rust resistance; that's a neat tip.

Trizact belts last a long time, I've had more Trizact belts fail at the seam than wear out, that's both in my home shop and when I used to use them professionally sharpening dental instruments. There's conflicting information on whether the belts are waterproof, I've tested a belt grinding wet and I feel that the abrasive slurries off so I run them dry, just keep a rag handy to wipe your blade after dipping in the water bucket. There is also a Norton product called Norax which is a very similar structured abrasive belt.
