I regularly look at a blog from Australia about motorcycles which is strange because I have been on one about 3 times in my life. But I do ride a bicycle. I go to the site for the aesthetics of the bikes and the comments of the regular guys who post. Occasionally they really rip into a builder for something they did on the bike and these posts and their retorts can be pretty funny. Sometimes I feel like SRP might benefit from a little more of a bare knuckle approach rather than cravats and top hats. I don't encourage meanness, but a little more constructive criticism, gently pointing out the absurdity, or just a contrary opinion and offering a way to resolve the problem. But, I guess you can't go wrong with : if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all.

I agree that we should be able to point out the obvious, and it can be done - just in the right way.
If someone has put a lot of time and effort into making something for themselves, then why do I care if it is ugly as sin or weird looking. If the issue is of a practical nature or the item is going to be made for sale then that's a bit different.
