Thanked: 1936Tagging a person
Just curious, is there a way that we can tag someone in a thread and they will get a notification similar to Facebook?
For instance, if I were to mention Gugi or Bruno, it would give you a notification so that you could check the thread to see why you may be tagged.
Lets say someone tagged me in a thread about a razor that I had made & didn't recall the steel or something along that line...then I would see the tag and be able to respond accordingly.
I'm sure it has a LOT to do with the base program we are working in, but wanted to ask non the less.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

I think it's possible with an additional software, but I'm not sure how desirable it is, so I haven't looked into the details. I guess it's something for the staff to discuss. I'll double check on the feasibility to make sure I'm not wrong about it.
Edit, we're talking about you getting notification if somebody writes in their post @shooter74743 or similar.Last edited by gugi; 01-10-2015 at 11:00 PM. Reason: clarification

Right now the @ thing is starting to make sense, someone did try to explain it to me a while back but I really didn't get it.
It would possibly be handy if you were trying to arrange something, instead of pm's and then posting a list of who had been told you could just tag them in the post and everyone else could see who had been asked.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

In a Forum that is cutting edge this feels like it is moving towards more conventional social media. I guess it is inevitable and could be useful....you could also end up with a bucket full of trash talk.

We don't 'bide none of that there trash talking and blaspheming round these parts.
Seriously though I think the membership here is generally refined enough to know how to behave, and if not, one of this extended family's less kindly uncles could always give the upstart a virtual clip around the ear.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

I've occasionally thought how an @-mention feature would be nice. Imagine a post where I say, "I don't rinse my blade, I wipe the lather on my forearm; got the idea from @edhewitt, so I can sue him when it goes south and I slice a tendon." Ed would see a notification that I'd mentioned him in a post.
Pretty cool, though not a feature I've ever seen in a forum, as far as I can recall.Keep your pivot dry!

Thanked: 3795I have never heard of tagging other than for cattle and a variation of the game we played in school called smear the qu**r that had nothing to do with anything other than tackling and piling 10 to 20 boys on top of whoever was willing to run with whatever small object was used to identify the person stupid enough to volunteer to be the qu**r.
However, I do like the idea of blaming Ed and think it should be expanded to blaming him for every razor cut.
