Jimmy, I think what Frankenstein is looking or hoping for is a thread or section that would host the posting and sales of member's goods to avoid the eBay situations. And I'm pretty sure he isn't imagining the classifieds as the place to do it. I'm getting the impression that what he is looking for is an active exchange about collections and sales from it or possible purchases to add to it based on member's collections. But then, like you say, I could be wrong.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. Not sure though if anyone else would be interested. And to be clear we're talking about the expensive stuff.

Unless I missed something, Frankenstein, are you looking for "I'm getting ready to dump this on the bay - last chance fellows" forum? I'm not one to purchase high end hardware, but this specific type of discussion could help keep these "collector grade stones and razors" in the community.
With which rules is this a conflict?

This is a curious thread.
To offer another view: If a member decides to sell his collection or pieces from it, I am guessing he requires the money from the sale. Otherwise, it becomes part of an estate which will be subject to estate law.
Does a seller want to sell his collection at a lower price (missing the bump of hysteria produced in an online auction) so that another collector can claim the pieces? This sounds quiet altruistic.
What does the seller gain by selling his goods at a lower price than that determined by the market? Sorry this doesn't work.
It sounds to me like the OP is miffed that he could not purchase a fellow SRP's pieces at an insider trading rate.
My sympathy is with the seller. Well, if I was capable of sympathy."Call me Ishmael"

Actually the idea was given to me by the seller.
I thought this idea was pretty straightforward, but maybe not. As an example, I sold a nos Escher a while ago. The idea is simply the thread is a place where you could keep all these types of things together so those of us who are looking for them know where to look.
Anyway, thanks guys. Maybe it's ok though. We can just carry on as we have been.I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

I used to be on a fishing forum and out of courtesy we used to list the stuff we wanted to sell in our classified to give a chance to your fellow members to buy before putting it up on ebay. It's really up to the seller but it's a great idea. I know I would rather one of my razors end up in one of your hands that's for sure.

I think it's a very good idea. Some other forums have a "deal or BST" section where items for sale/trade are posted. It's really nice because deals can be worked out and items can be traded or sold with a little more flexibility than what we have got here. I truly enjoy that style of selling/trading a lot more then our current classifieds.

OK, it's early in the morning, but could someone explain why the Classifieds aren't exactly that? Members, who want to sell something from their "collection" can post it there where other members could buy it?!?

If the seller says, 'I wish this stuff could have gone to a member of SRP,' he could be saying one of two things:
1. I wish I could have made the same amount of money selling to a member of SRP, or
2. There really isn't a 2.
How may thousands of eyes less do you have on SRP compared with say, EBAY?
You miss the auction part by posting on SRP, anywhere. And giving the members a heads up on an open auction somewhere else is nearly pointless."Call me Ishmael"
