Thread: Why dont we have a '+1' button?

I mean there are times when a 'thanks' is inappropriate. Sometimes I wanna throw my weight behind a point that has already been made. The options are: write the same opinion again, thank the person who made the point first or not comment.

You want a suggestion? Have a '+1' button. Thats my suggestion.

I think that's a pretty good idea right there. Kind of like saying, "yeah, I agree with his post", without typing it...like I am doing right now.

It was my uninformed understanding that the "Thanks" function was in fact the +1 mechanic already at work. Just missing the -1 option. I don't even know if the board supports more than one of them without some heavyhanded knowledge of coding.

IMO Thanks and +1 are often two different things. They can be the same in certain situations. But not often.

I dont think this issue has been adequately answered by the powers that be, so with apologies.....

I agree with Sidney that Thanks and "+1" are two totally different things. I use thanks if someone answers a question I had or says something very profound that I think deserves an actual thanking (obviously there are exceptions to the rule). I would use +1 if I wanted to agree with something rather than thank the person. I think it's a good idea.

I know David is pretty busy at the moment, but I bet he will answer here as soon as he can....

I think that really the guys to answer this are either David or Byron as they are our resident code gurus. I will pm David and see if he will answer it for you all.
