I'm in favor of it. I'm especially in favor of having graduated badges or whatever to indicate more generous contributors. Really gives those of us who are short on time but long on money a way to gain prestige. Also puts the hoi polloi in their place. I am generally in favor of money based aristocracies in real life as well as the internet.
I've been on servers (back in the days of Hotline) where you could buy premium memberships, and that was cool. Also, it's common for isps to sell premium subscriptions. I think as long as you are getting something for your money (aside from feeling superior) then it's a pretty equitable system.

I've seen it work and I've seen it not work. Depends on the crowd. Oneupsmanship is a helluva fundraising tool. One site I was a member of managed to buy half a rackful of servers using this technique. If SRP can upgrade by appealing to our vanity, why not?
Also, you say it backfired. Please clarify, I'm not sure what you mean. Did the sites in question lose money somehow?

Yes, for sure.
I'm not terribly interested in a blog, but I'd love to have JimmyHAD's honing journal (and those of others) in a place where I could access it

I vote NO..
I always vote no for charging for the "extras" in a forum...the charging seems to creep into main aspects of the forum before too long.
I enjoy SRP and really appreciate the work, energy and $ that goes into making this community hum
Wouldn't it be EXCITING to see SRP have all the "extras" for free. Certainly would make this site LEAP out to folks (which is not necessarily a good thing.
I support the "bake sales" that help with $.
Thank youse guys for a wonderful community.

Bruno, I do understand that there Is no free lunch...
Everything costs
This new forum software seems to be top shelf and managed by top shelf folk.

None of the ideas mentioned appeal to me, personally, but as long as it doesn't affect the current forums, I see no reason not to try something.

Thanked: 41I will not use any of the paid additions. I will however contribute to the support of this site with my dollars. If I do, I don't want to be part of the "Paid" membership. I would prefer to be a supporter or contributor because I appreciate what this site is offering to me and others of like interest. Can we have that option? An easy way to support this site by monitary contributions without getting anything else that we don't already have. And also I feel that there is no reason to announce to anyone who it is that contributes.
