What we have here is a failure to communicate

I have an idea; it's intended to be constructive. Additionally, I know programming isn't easy. That's part of the reason I know almost nothing about programming. Please don't jump on me for asking things that may or may not be possible under the system we use.
Look at northpaw's last post. Look below the text. On my computer screen there's damn near TWO inches of blank white space. It's useless! My assumption is that the space lines up with the information directly under my picture. Can I get rid of this "under-the-picture" information? I don't really care how many times a person has been thanked, and I don't mean any offense to those that do.
I guess what I'm saying is why can't the actual size of the posting box be altered to better fit the text inside of it? It seems we are corralling one cow in an entire section of grass.
p.s. northpaw, sorry to single you out! Just using you as an example, no offense intended!Last edited by Jimbo7; 07-29-2011 at 03:02 PM.

It's exactly the reason you anticipated - programming isn't easy. Although this isn't strictly programming, making a proper theme is rather time consuming, and so far nobody has stepped up volunteering to do it.
The theme that we have currently is just a customization of the default theme that the software comes with, so it is very far from perfect, though it was an effective and relatively efficient way to upgrade our forum with just 7 hours of downtime instead of the weeks it took some other forums with bigger resources than us.
But yeah, if somebody is good at web design feel free to create a new theme for the forum and as long it's not really hideous I will install it for everybody.

To everyone who is concerned with this change .... The policy of doing away with sigs was not something that came out of the blue nor was it arbitrary with no good reasons. It was discussed at length and, as with the general membership, there was not unanimity on the policy. The majority of the moderators and developers were in agreement with doing away with the sigs and so be it. I was one of those who dissented in the beginning but by the time the discussion was over I had changed my mind and agree with the policy. It is not for me to get into all of the reasons but suffice to say that it was considered to be for the benefit of SRP to institute this policy.

Carr: "Them clothes got laundry numbers on them. You remember your number and always wear the ones that has your number. Any man forgets his number spends a night in the box. These here spoons you keep with you. Any man loses his spoon spends a night in the box. There's no playing grab-ass or fighting in the building. You got a grudge against another man, you fight him Saturday afternoon. Any man playing grab-ass or fighting in the building spends a night in the box. First bell's at five minutes of eight when you will get in your bunk. Last bell is at eight. Any man not in his bunk at eight spends the night in the box. There is no smoking in the prone position in bed. To smoke you must have both legs over the side of your bunk. Any man caught smoking in the prone position in bed... spends a night in the box. You get two sheets. Every Saturday, you put the clean sheet on the top... the top sheet on the bottom... and the bottom sheet you turn in to the laundry boy. Any man turns in the wrong sheet spends a night in the box. No one'll sit in the bunks with dirty pants on. Any man with dirty pants on sitting on the bunks spends a night in the box. Any man don't bring back his empty pop bottle spends a night in the box. Any man loud talking spends a night in the box. You got questions, you come to me. I'm Carr, the floor walker. I'm responsible for order in here. Any man don't keep order spends a night in... "

Personally, I don't see what the fuss is all about. The only thing constant is change-some good, some bad. Since the powers that be opted to remove sig lines so be it. I don't think it's a bad change and it does not bother me at all. I found some sigs to be funny, some informative, some with helpful links to other areas of the forum, some were thought-provoking, and some ridiculously long and annoying, but that's just me.

Did you perchance miss the post where I say we are looking into the name thing?
Instead of shouting at us for for not getting everything 100% right first try while at the same time fullfilling mutually exclusive requirements, you could at least try to a) have patience while we discuss the issues, b) accept that not everything will be 100% ideal, c) understand that we are doing all this in our free time, or d) all of the above.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I think it's great. That's makes us all playing on the same field, judged only by our actions(words), not whatever political/religious/whatever statement in the signature.
