    Default Undisputed Champ of Soaps.

Im looking for the best soap ever. I have used a few and Tabac shave soap is my favorite. Im a wet shaver on a budget so I can't buy all kinds of soaps.

So I'm turning to you all to find out what is the next great soap I should try. I know this discussion is extremely subjective but would love to hear your opinions.

Well, for cheap and good, Arko comes to mind. I dunno if you've tried it, but if not, I'd give it a go. It does lather differently than a puck soap or cream soap, but it gives good cushion and glide and lasts a LONG time.

Crouton is right when it comes to the best bang for the buck. Arko is terribly underated as a soap. Some people don't care for the scent, which is NOT lasting. I find nothing objectionable about its scent. My top 4 soaps/creams are Xpec, Martin de Candre, Penhaligons, and Castle and Forbes. None of them are cheap. My current favorite is Xpec. Overall I find it to be the best. Its lather is great. It has great protection and glide. But the scent may not be for everyone. Penhaligons is slicker than whale sh!t. MDC lathers like no other. Castle and Forbes lathers great and produces lots of it with just a little amount of soap. You won't go wrong with any of them.

edit: Sorry, I missed the "on a budget" detail. None of the soaps I've recommended are budget soaps. Try Arko or even DR Harris (about $15/puck). DR Harris is my go to soap. I used it today. Great scents and lather.

I have to second Arko, it smells a bit funny but lathers terrifically.

Arko is a good budget soap. Martin De Candre is just amazing but it is quite pricey. If you like glycerin soaps the Straight Razor Designs are great soaps and pretty cheap (really good scents as well). Gee it's hard because there are just sooo many soaps out there.

MdC is excellent, but you'll be paying a premium price for it.
