I wouldn't have advised MWF. It can be awkward to lather, and can trigger peoples alergy to lanolin. Arko lathers ok, but watch for the chemical-like scent. Cella's pretty good, as is the Palmolive stick.

I agree, but the one I keep coming back to is Himalaya Shave Soap:
Escential Lotions & Oils: Perfume, Aromatherapy, Essential, and Massage Oils, Skin Care and Gifts since 1979
At $3.25 a puck, you can't beat it. It lathers well both in a bowl and on the face, the scent is very light,
it is easy on the skin, and its organic.
My wife and daughters also use it for their shaving needs, and they love it. So much so that I had to buy
them their own mugs and brushes!
Now, if you're willing to pay $40 a throw, that's another story.Last edited by PaulKidd; 01-18-2014 at 07:35 PM. Reason: addition

I'm fairly certain there will never be one undisputed soap/cream champion of the world. But that's what makes it fun - trying them out and seeing what you like.

My favorite so far is Pre de Provence, which can be found for about $15. My second favorite is the Arlington cream, by DR Harris. Very different, but equally good.
I have the SRD sampler, and I'm working my way through them too. It's a good way to test them out. So far I like them too.

You will get no end of replies here but plus one to Palmolive...many greats have been mentioned but Palmolive ticks all the boxes in my opinion. It's cheap as chips in the UK, works great with all water types and smells nice and clean. It's a true workhorse and often overlooked due to it's price at £0.49 a stick. I love and use all sorts but it's hard to beat the value of Palmolive, not even Arko can top it.

I just got a bowl of the DR Harris Arlington, along with 3 others DR Harris as a gift.
The Arlington is superb, a truly British shaving experience I believe it say's, love the scent and the lather. The only way I could describe the scent was to that it makes you smell like a museum...hahaha....great stuff!

I know not a soap but Godrej is a great cream. Sort of reminds me of Arko but in cream form.
From their stillness came their non-action...Doing-nothing was accompanied by the feeling of satisfaction, anxieties and troubles find no place

Thanked: 1195I'm starting to sound like a broken record here (lol) but Martin De Candre is indeed the champ of shaving soaps. If it's your one-and-only soap it will last for ages (even longer if in a rotation!), so it really is a great value despite its seemingly steep price tag.
It's a very pleasant scent, predominantly citrus-based to my nose.

Thanked: 375Palmolive, La 'Toja, These are probably the cheapest I have, both shave sticks. A Shave Cream I would suggest is Real Shaving or RS made in England, inexpensive, makes an amazing lather and a very mild but pleasant scent. Tea tree oil but subdued. Also your local drug store may carry it.
