I would agree with BobH, you would need another category for me to participate.
Is it the best soap IMO, no, is it average, definitely not, I'd rate is as above average IMO.

Try it and see. If you did and you don't, then it's not for you!
Price depends on the retailer and some of them do mark it up a little much, but as for me, I've never used a shaving soap that performed better. The moisturizing & the gliding cushion it provides are what make it so greatFind me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

MWF is my fav soap ........ can't beat it IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 220If used properly, it lathers like nothing else, and provides a slickness that other soaps lack. It also leaves my face feeling a bit smoother than other soaps. Yes, I admit that it can be tricky to get these results for an inexperienced MWF user, but for anybody who is, give it another couple of tries. Keep in mind that MWF doesn't like too much water in the brush.

I agree with you in essence, if not in tenor.
I find it to be just another soap that does what any shaving soap is supposed to. No problem lathering but it's still just another soap.
Where things fall off the rails is in the inflated reviews and personal testimonials. This is a separate issue not unique to MWF but rampant in all shaving consumables. In this case it's just a chunk of soap. It's not going to have that great an impact on my shaving. It's not going to make me or my life better or save my marriage.
Compared to others here, my sensitivities and perceptions might justifiably be deemed crude; I could never discern a pea beneath 20 mattresses and 20 feather beads, but the significance of the assessments made seem a little over the top at times.
I do have to bow to anyone who not only has tried 200 soaps but has in his possession that many... well my hat's off to you

It's average, imo. It's too fussy for my everyday useage. If it weren't for its scent, I'd have ditched the stuff ages ago.

Thanked: 0Performance is top notch! If you take the time to figure out the best way to use it you will be rewarded with awesome shaves. I bounce between many soaps and this is one that I can come back to and get good results, many others I have to shave with a few days in a row to get the right mix.
Cheers

It's a good solid soap. It belongs in the mid performance group of soaps.

Like Groucho Marx, I don't want to belong to any club that would have me for a member. I resisted buying MWF, having first experimented with many other soaps and creams including Proraso (tube), Cella, Lucky Tiger, Williams, Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood soap, Art of Shaving cream, Arko.... and a few more.
I finally knuckled under and bought some MWF. What most everyone else said, above. Easy to lather hot or cold, stays moist, excellent glide, very nice post-shave skin, pleasing scent. Except for the C&E Sandalwood (which was always gooey) the others, including Williams (plus a little glycerine), worked fine for me. But the MWF was better in all dimensions except cost. All I can do is echo what Birnando said.. except that I only have about 100 soaps. With respect to hard water lathering, I used to carry a stick of MWF with me when I traveled and never had a problem with lathering in any kind of water. Perhaps the "trick" is to use more soap in hard water.
