Thanked: 60Mitchel's Wool Fat - Over rated or what?
I read so much about MWF it drives me mad. I honestly think its a middle of the road soap, nothing to write home about at all. Ok it comes in a nice ceramic vintage looking dish but apart from that what is so good about it?
I read posts of people adding things to the stuff it to get it to lather, special You tube videos where people show you the trick of how to make it lather and people raving about it and others using it to make Uberlathers as its better with things added to it obviously. What is so great about this overpriced average soap? I just don't get it?It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

It isn't overrated at all imho. Out of the 200 or so soaps and creams I have, it is absolutely in the top 5 percentile. The glide and mousturizing it gives is surpassed by very few out there. It can be finicky to lather in less than ideal conditions, like with hard water though.

I've never had a problem with MWF. In fact, I'd say it's near perfect. Excellent glide, lanolin for feeding your skin, and a pleasant light scent that allows following with any aftershave. It is priced higher than some other soaps, but a puck will last for a very long time.

Thanked: 3225Well, you've gone and torn it now Kev. Personally, I think it is a very good soap that I have no trouble lathering up. I do not use any "special techniques", additions to or even secret handshakes to get it to lather. Is it the greatest thing since sliced bread? For me it is a very good soap but there are others that I would sooner use. You don't have a spot between average and the greatest so I did not vote.

out of about 20 soaps here I'd rate it at the top. I don't do anything special and I get a great lather. I'm not too crazy about the smell, but it gives me a great cushion to shave on and I find it leaves my skin feeling very soft and moisturized. I love it!!!

MWF is IMO one of the best soaps out there. It can be a bit tricky to lather, but once figured out it's great.
PS! I never mix it anything.Need help or tutoring? Check out the .

Thanked: 1185I've never had a problem lathering it and have always loved the shaves with it. I say not overrated at all but simply one of the best shaving soaps on the market. In a recent SOTD post I revealed that despite being a big time soap whore for years, I've settled down to basically just two. My two are MWF and Tabac. No regrets at all.

Out of the dozen or so highly touted soaps I have tried, MWF is the top performer on my face where it counts. Great cushion and glide, fewer nicks, less irritation, bleeding stops faster, close shave and softer skin. How could it be better? It would be nicer if it could mold into a mug like Cella and would not crack eventually in use and break up when mostly used up. Why can't it stay in one piece stuck on the bottom of the mug like Tabac until the very end? For $ 15 per puck these are small criticisms for top performance. I have never had any problems lathering MWF. Someday, I will try one of the high $ soaps like CF or MDC and see whether I can get a better shave.

My goodness. That number is rather staggering.
Do you keep a database of your observations on how each one performs? That would be interesting to peruse.
As an aside, a copy of your post, with the 200 highlighted will be placed in a conspicuous spot for my wife to read.

I just bought some about 2 weeks ago..and I LOVE it!! It lathers much better than the local handmade soap I was using and I've been using it exclusively since I got it. Before that I was making uberlather with VDH soap and a variety of creams (AoS, ToBS, etc) The MWF provides a nice cushion, great glide and I'm digging the lanolin smoothness :P I guess my water is the type that MWF likes because I havent had any issues lathering. As with everything shaving related..YMMV
