Thank you razorguy for confirming I have a right to be a little confused on the issue of stearic acids. No, I won't take on faith what manufactures claim on their labels being a cynic.

You are absolutely right on this, too. I agree on this completely.
The fact stearic acid is a molecule which can be produced both by animal and vegetable fats, after the moment it has been produced you cannot tell, as far as I know, its origin.
It is also worth noticing "stear" is a Greek word meaning "tallow". The main vegetable origin of stearic acid is palmitic acid but it can also be produced from other vegetables as well. Animal fats contains more stearic acid than vegetable fats, therefore it is mainly produced from animal fats. Only cocoa butter and shea butter can compete with animal fats in regard of stearic acid contents. It should also be noticed these two vegetable substances are mainly used for other purposes and are rarely used for the production of stearic acid. Making stearic acid from animal fats is cheaper and more common.

Exactly my problem in believing manufacturers labeling when profits are, naturally, the ultimate goal considering nobody can tell the origin of that ingredient.

I agree 100% with this. The sad part of this is that laws do not help that much.
