As to Fitjars it is available direct from them in Norway https://www.fitjarsoap.no/products/s...ng-soap-refill . I have the Slatteroy and Neroli versions. Never had a bay rum scented soap but the Slatteroy is warm and spicey to me and maybe similar to a bat rum, I don't know. The Neroli scent reminds me a little of DR Harris Arlington which I have. The company was excellent to deal with and the product shipped promptly. Like I say I like them but you may not.

Yes, backwards turn of the phrase on my part, knew what you meant. Thanks for the link.

I am underwhelmed at the difference in performance between the MdC and the Tabac/Fitjars soaps for the difference in cost. It is just the old the more you pay the less increase in performance you seem to get. That applies to most things not just shave soaps. I am just not feeling the increase in performance that the 100% cost increase, MdC @ $0.36 per gr and the Tabac @ $0.18 per gr, that I think I should be feeling. Ultimate performance at no matter the cost has never been where I am at buying consumer goods. It is a totally different story for other people I am sure. It depends what you include in your parameters for judging. Just a case for me that it is very good soap but ....................

I don't know if you've had it long enough to tell, but how do MDC and the others you mention compare in terms of its rate of use? I've been using my MDC for most of my shaves over the last month and I've hardly put a dent in it. So now I'm curious as to whether part of the price is just from the fact that it lasts so damn long.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

That just might possibly the equalizer for me and MdC but I won't be able to tell as I use a large rotation of different soaps and creams. Yea, definitely if you amortize the cost over a longer period of time/number of uses that would definitely be a plus for MdC over others. Then again everyone uses consumables at a different rate so that is still a subjective observation and not one that is quantifiable. It would have to be a controlled lab experiment.

    This is very cruel.
Every time I'm able to suppress my urge to buy MDC, another thread about the soap comes to life...

Thanks for the link, but I live in Belgium, country next to France, so I will buy it from their site.
Or maybe a visit to their store

I am currently waiting for my package to turn up from France. I ordered both the soaps after reading all the different threads I couldn't resist the urge to hit the button. Like most of you I use MWF and at first I have to admit I wasn't impressed but now it's growing on me. I also use the Italian heavy hitter Proraso but currently my favour is Col Conk Bay Rum. I have to say can't wait for the postman to turn up =)
