Well, I expected to be disappointed in MDC, with all the build up, I wouldn't have been surprised if it turned into a bust.

But wow, it really is an incredible shaving soap. I used the Fougere, and I must say, if I could pick only one soap to ever shave with again, it would be the Fougere. I might add the Original Scented to the mix when I try that for the next shave.

Considering the build up MdC has had I was expecting not to be disappointed but just a little underwhelmed. As it turned out I was not disappointed but slightly underwhelmed by the difference between using McD and some of the other soaps I have in rotation. It was not as huge a gulf as I would have thought for the outlay of cash. Certainly a top performer by any measurement though. Yes, as good a candidate for your only shave soap as any out there.

That's interesting, I guess the comparison's I have would be limited to the Osma, which I quite like but also rather a different soap. There's the MWF, which is great, but I was underwhelmed on that one. The DR Harris was superb...then for me it would be down to the Prorasso line, which I admit I have huge great feelings for, so my experience in terms of soaps is probably limited.

How would you stack it in comparison to other soaps you've used? Would be interesting to get some ideas on other soaps that you like, I definitely value your opinion, as always.

    Cheers!

Everyone has a different outlook. My MdC cost me $71 CAD with exchange for 200gr for a very good shave soap. OTH 2 Tabac refill pucks would cost me $40 CAD for 225gr or 2 Fitjars refill pucks for $50 CAD for 200gr. I am underwhelmed at the difference in performance between the MdC and the Tabac/Fitjars soaps for the difference in cost. It is just the old the more you pay the less increase in performance you seem to get. That applies to most things not just shave soaps. I am just not feeling the increase in performance that the 100% cost increase, MdC @ $0.36 per gr and the Tabac @ $0.18 per gr, that I think I should be feeling. Ultimate performance at no matter the cost has never been where I am at buying consumer goods. It is a totally different story for other people I am sure. It depends what you include in your parameters for judging. Just a case for me that it is very good soap but ....................

Yes, definitely see where you're going with that, and while I've been disappointed for those exact reasons with a few other soaps, in this case, for me, I was surprised for a change at how nice it was, and for me, that alone was worth the additional cost! haha!

edited to add: any recommendations around the Fitjars? Are there different scents? Never heard of the soap until you mentioned it?

Yes, found out rather quickly about the super concentrated part, did my normal brush swirl in the bowl, and ended up with enough lather for three people probably!!!

See now that is what makes the world go round. Never said what I think about a product applies to anyone else, after all it is just a subjective opinion and most people have those.

That is not where I am going it is where I am coming from, a different view point. I expected it to be at least as good as it is, possibly better.

As to Fitjars it is available direct from them in Norway https://www.fitjarsoap.no/products/s...ng-soap-refill . I have the Slatteroy and Neroli versions. Never had a bay rum scented soap but the Slatteroy is warm and spicey to me and maybe similar to a bat rum, I don't know. The Neroli scent reminds me a little of DR Harris Arlington which I have. The company was excellent to deal with and the product shipped promptly. Like I say I like them but you may not.
