Unfortunately preference is part of what makes a soap good or bad for an individual. Case in point being the Vitos Red that I used this morning. It produces a very good lather that I have no qualms using with a straight unfortunately I can just barely put up with the scent. Others do like the scent so is it a good or bad soap? It can be a yes and no sorta thing.

the scent is a very personal matter. The properties 'mechanical vito's are great, the smell may' not appeal to everyone but it is not a problem after a few months the vito's lost all the perfume!

Vitos Red is an excellent Italian shaving soap and so is the green. As for scent, this is very personal and here is no absolute opinion about this, of course. As for me, almond scent in shaving creams and soaps is among my favorite ones. I understand this can be it is the most popular scent used in Italy for shaving cream and this is scent to what we Italian are used to since we were kids. It is what you were smelling when you were entering any barber shop here. No matter what, I love almond scent in my soaps!

Had my Vitos for a year and the scent that is present today, which I would not describe as almond, is not pleasant to me.

Exactly, I did not say Vitos Red was not an excellent soap for shaving with only that the scent was not to my liking. So that is the conundrum with with quite a few soaps for a lot of people. They are technically very good to shave with but some scents do not endear themselves to some people. Tabac is a classic example of that, very good soap to shave with but the scent is off putting to quite a few people. Me, I love Tabac all around oddly enough. You really can't leave scent out of the equation when looking at a soap as good or bad on an individual by individual basis. That is the part that makes selecting a new soap very difficult.

They say it is a scent of almond, but it is very artificial. It is not a pleasant scent. In addition, where I am the scent fades after a few months. My Vito's green no more 'perfume. Red is new and still has its own fragrance.
The true scent of almond soap Italian you can find it in Panama De Boellis for me.
