Thanked: 1185Then again, I like Pinaud Lilac Vegetal which is often compared to urinal cakes by its many haters. My SOTD is taking shape nicely, Arko and Lilac Vegetal. Now all I've got to do is figure out a razor. Ah yes, the 1910 Gem Lather Catcher. Thanks fellas.

Thanked: 3226All the talk of Arko smelling like some old school soaps brought Sunlight bar soap to mind.

Thanked: 10I'll agree that Arko isn't the best smelling soap. That honor probably goes to some of Mama Bear's creations. Some of her soaps smell good enough to eat.
But in my mind, scent is the least important factor when choosing a soap. It doesn't affect the performance of the soap at all, which is all that should matter. If the best performing soap in the world smelled like a combination of diarrhea and spoiled milk, I would still use it every day if it gave me the perfect shave.
That being said, Arko isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It smells like.....well, soap. And the scent doesn't linger at all. If people reading this are one the fence about Arko, don't let the scent stop you from trying this wonderful product. That's just silly.

Thanked: 2If you can, try La Toja - sticks or cream - it is very cheap and it smells great!!!
Here in Spain it is one of the oldest, cheapest and more used in daily shaving.

Thanked: 1185I've been meaning to try the La Toja shavesticks for a long time. I really must include them in my next soap purchase.
