Well having had a three year old once before about three years ago (now a six year old) I had to learn that for the next several years it's best to abstain from getting many high end items which can easily be ruined. The one I got wasn't the cheapest but not really a high end product. A synthetic badger hair from Omega. Never used one and was just a bit over $22 with shipping from Maggard's.

If it helps, Maggards usually sends out some samples to try. Two orders two sets of samples. I guess that could be bad because I usually end up wanting to try more of what they send.
If I control myself , I buy the sampler. Edwin Jagger gives me a good bang for the buck.

Reading this thread has convinced me to give the Maggard soaps a try.
Just ordered samples of all 5 of them.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Maggard is a great company to deal with. The customer service is amazing. The shipping is supper fast, I do not know how they do it. And the lilac smells just like the yard in the spring. The wife loves the lilac too.

I ordered the Orange Menthol and it should arrive tomorrow; I have dealt with the Maggards in the past and they deliver super fast. I will post my thoughts on the this soap after I use it in a few shaves. HOG

Received the samples from Maggard Razors yesterday. Excellent shipping time. Great customer service.

I opened the box and gave each one a good sniff. A few of them stood out.

    Orange Menthol :
This one intrigued me the most. I'll hold off on commenting on this one so as to not step on Hogrider's thoughts about it.

    Lilac:
Just like redtruck mentioned above, it does remind you of a yard in the spring. Light scent. Have a feeling this one will make a regular appearance in the rotation soon.

Tommorrow I'll start with the Limes & Bergamot.

    More later.

    Cool

OK men, here is my review (very early) on this soap. Comments are welcome.

    Maggard’s Shaving Soap review.
    Orange Menthol.

With two shaves in the shave-odemeter here are MY first impressions:

Gear used 1st shave: Razor: Merkur Progress/Astra Blade/Omega badger
Gear used 2nd shave: Razor: 1940 Fat handle tech/Super thin Gillette/Omega boar

Packaging: Wide mouth jar to facilitate face lathering right from the jar; guys, no need for a bowl on this one. Just plug and play.

Scent: When I first applied this soap, the orange scent came forth to the foreground, what a nice citrusy scent! The menthol however trailed nicely and complimented the first.

Ease of lathering: I started the brush too dry, hydrating it kicked in the soap to high gear. A very nice thick cream covered my face in no time. I like this soap!

Glide: No nicks or weepers, even though I am taking blood thinners for a medical condition. Niceeeeeee.

The end result: the face feels refreshed; the skin supple; do I recommend……hell yes!

Shaved with Maggard's Limes & Bergamot this morning.

    My thoughts:

    - Lathered nicely - a nice richness to the lather. Thick.
    - Excellent cushion and glide. Easy to shave with.
    - Loaded well onto brush.
    - Used an almond sized amount for a 3 pass shave and still had lather left over.
    - Lime scent was prevalent at first while building the lather, then a manly bergamot kicked in. I really liked this.
    - Face felt smooth and refreshed afterwards. No irritation. I have sensitive skin, so this is a major plus in my book. A good shave.
    - It stayed moist the whole time on the face. Did not dry out.

I'm giving the Limes & Bergamot a thumbs up. A quality product.
