Thanked: 5Number one criteria is performance that being slickness and ease of lathering. Next is scent and last is price. I will always pay more if I'm getting more.
Just shaved with a new razor and Tabac as it is my benchmark soap for testing a razor. BBS with Sistrum (Paul Drees) Solingen, Tabac, Omega 1066 boar brush and Floid Blue aftershave and cologne. Very happy with all the components today.

Heh, I am reminded of the old line about economists:
"Ask five economists and you'll get five different answers - six if one of them went to Harvard."
There is a huge personal perference aspect to soap selection - for some scent is the make it or break it aspect, for others that is secondary. One soap reviewer threw rocks at Xpec (a very good performer) and would not use it because it comes in a plastic tub and he expects a super-premium soap to come in a nice container. Another did the same for MWF because it smells like.. well, soap.
I think performance is most important for most of us. We want a rich, "cushiony" lather with lots of slickness or "glide" that does not break down and become watery. Skin conditioning might be next most important although if we use a post-shave balm that becomes moot. Ease of lathering and scent are probably next for most of us I suppose.
Fortunately, there is a huge selection of soaps and creams available so no one need sacrifice something that is important to him in order to get that great shave performance that is what matters in the end. Part of the fun of the game is trying new soaps. It's a never ending trial since we'll never be able to sample them all (although I am trying.)

I have a preference for tallow base soap it doesn't matter which one i even like Williams so! As for veggie base soap there ok but i preffer tallow base soap. I do have Cella, MWF, Stirlling, Tabac, Arko, palmolive and others non tallow base they gave me all good results, but to choose the one i like the best that's a hard 1 to answer lol.

I use four Stirling soaps. I also like Reef Point soaps, especially Peerless.

Thanked: 5What scent is the peerless? As a former naval officer and flight surgeon I would have to purchase aviator and see if it smells like my leather flight jacket. Ha.

Thanked: 2591Barrister and Mann from the american artisans.
MWF and Tabac from abroad.
There are French artisans non vegan soaps based on donkey milk that are worth mentioning IMO.
La Savonniere du Moulin -40% milk content
Le Savonnerie du Bon Berger -10% milk content.Stefan

Since Maggard went "all tallow", I need to add them to the list, especially Limes & Bergamot.

I've found First Canadian Shave to be as good or better than MWF, Tabac, and Barrister & Mann.
