Well, yes, it was and is very black and white. Fraud, violation of FDA regulations, shilling and other illegal marketing techniques are very black. Add to that bad products, and the answer to Phoenix Artisans Accoutrements in whichever shape or form is, "absolutely not".
And that is not just an ethical decision, it is first and foremost a performance decision. Their products are bad. The rest is just drama caused by people who, for whichever reason, believe that fraud et al are quite all right. I reserve the right to believe otherwise.

I disagree with you. Their performance is comparable to pretty much everyone out there. You have such overwhelming emotions for whatever reason about the past issues that has soured you in some way shape or form that isn't allowing you to enjoy the product.
I would rather you just say "I hate douglas and will always hate his products." That makes a lot more sense to me. It would still be sad but at least can make sense.
This kind of emotion, anger, and general care should be reserved for your family. Not some random guy selling stuff the genuinely doesn't affect your life at all-David

What sets the Straight Razor Place apart from certain other fora is that it encourages the use of high quality products. Gold Dollar razors are a good example of how bad products are dealt with.
There is, indeed, one thing about which I feel quite strongly, and that is consumer protection. Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements sell cheap melt and pour soap base with even cheaper fragrance oils. That is not quality, that is the most primitive type of shaving "soap" available. If it works for you, that's fantastic. Claiming that there products are anything but cheap crap is, however, misleading. I wonder why you would do that.

I think Robin is spot on with his analysis. It is always the PAA fanboys who cause the drama. Case in point: PAA and this t-shirt monger here. So much drama. So much colour. So incredibly little taste. Which fits with the overall theme of PAA products which is "cheap crap for cheap boys".
Lots of undercover selling and shilling going on. That is very bad for the shaving community, which thrives on honesty and integrity.

Barrister, what is the reference to the t-shirt monger?
Never mind. After exploring the link some more the shirt reference became obvious.

I have given this response some thought. And I think it warrants a slightly unusual reply.
There is a lot of slander in this statement.
First "overwhelming emotions" hints at hysteria, which is a really cute notion. Also a nice way to disavow a person instead of their arguments. Nice touch, albeit a feminine way of having a discussion.
"past issues" is, diplomatically put, hilarious. Fraud, violations of FDA regulations, or selling cyanide as soap are not "issues". They are, in most countries, criminal offences. Not "issues".
It would not be "sad", it would be a violation of the sixth commandment. I do not hate your buddy "douglas" (or whatever its name is). Nor do I hate his products. I have tested them. They are cheap crap. Mislabelled, made from cheap melt and pour base, and even cheaper fragrance oils. That is an objective statement. Feel free to prove me wrong.
Like "past issues", you are downplaying the enormity of the things your buddy "douglas" did. Pose as a former CIA operative to sell his warez to veterans? Classy. Does that affect my life? Of course it does not. But I have spent a lot of time and effort making this forum slightly better than others. Part of that effort was review writing, and building the Wiki. Because, unlike insinuated in your feminine opening, I am the opposite of passionate. Enhanced mental condition. Very useful when dealing with people who resort to personal insults, and slander, instead of focusing on the discussion proper.
So, as I said, slightly unusual response, but since your buddy "douglas" is a well known ventriloquist, and is known to have used dummies and dolls to promote his warez where it's been banned, one cannot help but wonder.
As a well known old walrus keeps saying, it's a mad world out there. Yowza.
Have fun
