    Oleo Soapworks

    Gentlemen,

I am almost ready to move Oleo Soapworks to the First Tier. Oleo is a small operation based in Chicago. The soap maker is Vida Perez Velazquez. I find the soaps excellent in every respect, from producing luxurious lather to giving good face protection.

The soaps provide plenty of slickness and have impressive residual slickness. The aftershave feel on the face is comfortable. No burn. I have tried only the Windy City and Pella Toscana fragrances thus far and especially like the Windy City fragrance. Good stuff.

My next interview for SRP is with Ms. Velazquez, in about two or three weeks. Stay tuned.

Obie, I looked at those soaps before, after you previously mentioned them. Now that you are still enjoying them, I decided to order a couple, Very Cherry (I love cherry anything) and Old Orchard Cider as I love hot cider in the fall.

Lately I've been impressed with Wholly Kaw, not a new soap but one new to me, made by a very nice man named Shalini. He started offering LE formulations of his soaps with donkey milk. All of my soaps that contain donkey milk seem to have an increased cushion, glide, and post shave slickness and face moisturizing properties over other soaps. I've enjoyed several of his scents, including King of Oud and Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli. I haven't tried his tallow soaps without donkey milk, nor his vegan soaps.

I look forward to your thoughts on the scents. The Irving Park looks inviting.

I have been limiting myself the last few years to trying one new soap per year on average. I've taken to that mostly to dip my toe in the water to see what things are like out there. Thus far I'm not adding anything new based on what I'm trying. Today I used The Holy Black for the first time. My first reaction was allergic. I could feel the burn before the razor ever touched my beard. The burn continue to increase during the shave and I couldn't wait to get it off of me. When it comes to skin reactions, there is no warning until you're in the middle of it. Years past when I wasn't aware of those things I might be looking at my razor or the edge or my angle/pressure as the culprit. But I now know the signs. You get that tingly burning sensation right from the start. So as such, if there is anyone out there that wants the remainder of my purchase, its yours for the taking. PM me if you want it but please keep it domestic to the US/CONUS as I'm not asking for anything in return.

I eventually got my hands on some MdC Original that was delivered today.

I look forward to shaving with it tomorrow morning.

You'll need about 20-25% less loading than with a 'normal' soap. MdC is very soluble. You can feel the lather 'break' or get very creamy when the water hits the right amount if you're face lathering.

    Cheers, Steve

Oh my, I wish I had your restraint. I'm doing well if I try only one new soap per week, and I'm embarrassed to say how many soaps I have. My excuse is that I primarily used only one soap, Old Spice, for nearly 50 years, then I discovered the forums and what I'd been missing all those years. Now it seems there is a new soap maker popping up every week or so with some new soap or scent that I feel I just have to try.
