I have mixed top tier LPL with SV and came up with a top notch mix.
I tried mixing tallow based and veg based soap and they didnt mix well at all.
Even went to a double boiler method and liquified them and mixed.
I made a huge mess and then had to clean up and listen to SWMBO.
I just buy a top tier and am done.Your only as good as your last hone job.

markbignosekelly,
I have made super lather with many of the soaps in the Second and Third Tier soaps and had excellent results. I've even experimented, to some satisfaction, with the Basement Tiers soaps. My recipe is: soap, cream and five drops of glycerin.
Yet I prefer soaps and creams that stand on their own. For instance, adding anything to Castle Forbes, Xpec, Martin de Candre, Le Pere Lucien, Klar Seifen, Czeche & Speake, Esbjerg, Baum.Be, and other fine quality brands, is foolish. To me, anyway.
Klar Kabinett, the one soap in the Second Tier I consider the best barber soap ever made — again, my opinion — stands well on its own. Overall, it fails the First Tiers lineup, but it is good enough to use without being spiked. Also, it is a sweet reminder of old time barbershops, a treasure that America has lost. Unfortunately, this German soap is no longer made — I have a bar of it left and use it occasionally, trying to stretch out into the next century.
Now, its stud of a brother, Klar Seifen, rides high in the First Tier.
Mitchell's Wool Fat, Tabac and Institute Karite, among others, do fine on their own, but I often spike them with an unscented cream. No glycerin. Barrister & Mann, which I consider one of best of the U.S. artisan soaps I have tried, needs spiking in my shave den, because the cushion and glide are not where they should be. Saponificio Varesino, although it has an intoxicating fragrance, lacks the proper cushion, as well as the aftershave qualities I desire.
In the end, do what you prefer.
And take all this as my opinion.

Thanked: 1081Yeah, some combos work, some dont, and I couldn't promote a cream/soap that doesn't stand up on its own.
Someone gave a great review of meissner, but after trying a few of their creams no matter what I did even trying a super lather couldn't get it to work.
As always, one mans top tier is anothers bottom but its always fun finding out.Last edited by markbignosekelly; 03-24-2016 at 04:13 PM.

Meissner Tremonia soaps failed to impress me from the start. Worst, I tried several and they torched my skin. OY! The reason I have them in the Second Tier is because enough gentlemen like them — and I don't want to go overboard with my opinion.
I stay with the First Tier, and with the Second and the Third Tiers until my stash runs out.

My experience with Meissner Tremonia is limited, but the lather they produced was adequate. It is not as amazing as I have read in the past. However, the two scents that I got (Beer No.1 and Himalayan Heights) don't really smell anything like what is in them. They kinda smell like candy/chalky to me. From what I have read so far, the dark limes is supposed to have the best scent, and I regret not getting that in a sample. I have a preference towards old-timey scents and citrus.
Obie, what do you mean by "torched"? Which flavors was it?

The ones I am trying now are in your third/second tier and perform similar to them. Your tiers are your tiers, wouldn't adjust them to match popular opinion...
Really wish I had double checked my samples with your list prior to ordering them. Ah well, live and learn!

Thanked: 3225I had some samples, Meisner Tremonia among them, and combined about 6 samples into on bowl. That worked well and was a good way to use up samples of soaps I would not buy. Got lucky with the scent too.

Interesting subject I don't believe in mixing any soap you just get an inferior product, I just stay with top tier and some tier 2 and call it a wrap any soaps I don't like go to the never to be usd again pile, the trustie circular file, I don't waste my time got a mail call yesterday that included Czech Speake great shave today.
