The Obie Memorial First Tier Soaps and Creams Thread.

Obie's extremely useful thread introduced me to great soap choices. Recently, I have been using a 2nd tier soap recommended by Obie, Green Mountain. I have the "grapefruit and lavender" soap. Properly lathered it gives very satisfying shaves with a pleasant fragrance, with enough lather for 3 passes. It gives a comfortable shave, without quite the cushion and glide found in the top tier. I'm glad Obie's posts got me to try this soap. It will have a permanent place in my shave den.

It's a good reminder to me to try soaps in the 2nd and 3rd tiers, instead of luxuriating in the top tier soaps. Good shaves are to be had from those ranks too.

+1 on Green Mountain soaps. I like the grapefruit and lavender scent too. While Green Mountain is great on its own, I also have the "unscented" Green Mountain for the purpose of adding a bit of some other cream to the lather such as a tiny bit of Truefitt & Hill but also works with less expensive creams too, like Neutrogena. Doesn't take much and you get a super nice lather and a mild scent of whatever cream is used.

Landing soon, couldn't resist any longer, Alvarez Gomez Barberia Shaving cream, which I understand is almost a croap, but not quite. I've been reading about this soap on and off for a couple of years.

I read on another forum that it is a top tier performer, rave reviews from this old Spanish perfumer, founded in 1896, and that, "The scent, which is the same for the whole Barberia line, is similar to the Agua Concentrada (lemon, lavender and Eucalyptus) but with a potent wooden undernote that makes it more masculine and makes it last longer."

Sounds yummy...another soap to fill the void

Yes, Alvarez Gomez is a fine cream with an intoxicating fragrance. First Tier in every way. Good stuff.

Alvarez Gomez is my wife's favorite scent out of all my soaps, so it's often what I'll use prior to going out for an evening. Fortunately, it's also a top performer and a joy to use. I top it off with a little Aqua Di Parma Colonia EdT, and I'm all set.

Thanks for the tip Richard, as I have a nice bottle of the ADP aftershave, so will be giving that a try.

Another of my favorites that's getting reading for it's first re-order - ADP shaving soap, love the stuff, causes my toes to curl every time I use it.

Yes that's it very nice stuff! I ordered some Alvarez Gomez about a month ago and have really enjoyed it. The scent is one of my favorites, can't get enough of it!

I took Obie's advise....took the plunge and ordered some Castle Forbes Lavender...did not disappoint !! Very little needed to make a mound of suds...slick, cushion.....iam spoiled now !
