Just arrived today, and Obie, I can completely see why this is Tier 1 - the fragrance is intoxicating, thick, rich, earthy wood scent, the hint of citrus is definitely there, which is very nice as it gives the soap a very high note, and right plum in the middle is the Lavender, which brings it all together.

Coupled with literally smaller than a dime sized dollop of the stuff, it literally exploded with lather with no effort, and provided a thick lather with great glide, great on the skin afterwards. Even with my usual application of Esbjerg Aftershave Oil, which has a slight lemon note to it, the fragrance from this soap is still present.

For the next use, I'll have to use even a smaller amount, as my scuttle and brush could have easily lathered another 6 or so passes.

This one is a clear Tier 1 if ever there was one, absolutely superb.

I think I said that a year ago.

    it's one of my favorites.

Acca Kappa is another under the radar great soap.

    Good morning Gentlemen,

I've been slightly absent these last few weeks or so. Life and responsibilities are getting in the way of my honing/restoring!

Anyways, my parents came to visit a couple weeks ago. My father and I decided to check out the Truefit and Hill store/barbershop in Chicago. It is a pretty slick place, with a alright selection of their shaving wares but no straights. A few DE's and handles for Gillette cartridges. They had one brush size, but with multiple handles.

They had their whole line on display and we spent close to an hour just smelling stuff. They had some shampoos and other things I wasn't really interested in, but the shower gels matching the scents did give me a pause. However, I was on a mission and decided to forgo those on this trip. We both ended up liking the 1805 & Grafton the most. The sandalwood was a great scent, but we both already have different balms and soaps in that scent and wanted something different. The West Indian limes was intriguing, more earthy and less sweet/citrusy than I was anticipating. I can't remember the No. 10 and Trafalgar too much and is partially the reason why I didn't purchase one of those. The Spanish Leather aftershave is an excellent scent, but I was going for matching scents. I'm definitely going to have to pick that up in the future. We didn't see/check for any descriptions to the scents, which I think helped us really smell what we were looking at and not thinking about what it is supposed to smell like. I purchased a smaller tube of 1805 cream and the aftershave and my father purchased the same in the Grafton.

My impressions are pretty high for the soap and the scent. It reminds me of spiced oranges with some earthy scents, more of a "warm" scent if that makes sense. I really like the cream, the post shave feel is great and it is pretty idiot proof to lather. The aftershave feels great on my skin and leaves a fairly subtle, but long lasting scent. All-in-all I am really please with these products and highly recommend them.

    dinnermint,

I have been to that store on Michigan Ave. in Chicago; it's a little bit of paradise. The 1805 is a lovely cream, and Grafton, too. The Spanish Leather cologne, my favorite of all the aftershaves and colognes I use, has a bewitching fragrance: notes of leather, musk, lavender, neroli, orange, and so on. Good stuff.

It is a heavenly place, I'm a big fan of warm and classic interiors. Dark wood and leather abound in that place.

I think my largest disappointment is that they do not have a shaving cream for the spanish leather. If that was the case, I would have bought a couple buckets worth of the cream and aftershave. I'm requesting the cologne sample pack for christmas.

I forgot to mention other colognes, being the Freshman and Clubman. It wasn't Pinaud Clubman, that's for sure and neither really appeal to me at the time. However, I couldn't quite smell anymore by the time I got to those colognes, especially huffing the spanish leather just prior to those.

    dinnermint,

Truefitt & Hill does not have a Spanish Leather shave cream. Geo F Trumper does, and it's lovely. It comes only in a tube. The Trumper Spanish Leather cream has more leather — the Truefitt & Hill Spanish Leather has a hint of leather — and it is quite warm and refreshing.
