I don't have sensitive skin and almost never feel burn, and didn't from Henri et Victoria, although I almost think that I'm in the minority. However, I have to agree with you, Obie, that it's performance is mediocre. I'll probably still use La Poire Francaise on occasion, because I love the scent, but won't be ordering other scents. I do find the balm to be excellent, and have been using it in combination with other soaps.

Gentlemen,
Henri et Victoria Duc de Santal's fragrance has a spicy sandalwood and woodsy fragrance that transports me to an English hunting lodge. It's a pleasant fragrance and comforting, a fragrance that made me wish I still could light up a pipe after breakfast.
Duc de Santal lathers well with ample moisture. The glide is good. Not so the cushion. Something is missing in these soaps that gives them a mediocre cushion. I am not a chemist, so the reason is beyond me.
Unlike the Cognac and Cuban Cigars version of Henri et Victoria shaving soap, Duc de Santal gave me no burn during the shave. After the shave, however, I feel some burn. I'm afraid I must place Duc de Santal also in the Third Tier category.
I don't mean to be presumptuous, but Henri et Victoria should evaluate its soaps overall and make some adjustments wherever necessary. Obviously for me, something is missing in these soaps, at least in the ones I have tried. Too bad, because thus far, the soaps lather well, have plenty of moisture and good glide. Taking care of the cushion and what causes the burning would move Henri et Victoria in my humble Second Tier of soaps and creams.
As always, gentlemen, this is only my opinion.

Thanked: 2284Found this the other day and thought you guys might like to know of another place to get this stuff. For a while it was hard to find. I'm not sure if it's still that way but here's another. This has me really debating, cause it's only an hour away from where I live. Pricey, but it's been a while since I've bought a new soap. Might have to go for the red since I'm a wood kinda guy.
They also have a lot of the Wholly Kaw range of soaps available.

Thanked: 556I don’t think he has an actual store front, so driving to St. Catharines to see his stuff might require an invitation into his home. I have had an email exchange with him and he is very anxious to support the wet shaving community and hopes to expand his “software” inventory.
I posted that he is sponsoring a Niagara meet up for wet shavers. Check his website for details.David

I just tried it and it is not to shabby.
It gets good marks on the gentle fragrance and glycerin content categories.
They have an unscented puck that should be considered if someone has allergies
or plans to go to a serious wine tasting. As a general rule I like to test the fragrance free
version of any soap makers shave soap. If that does not shave well then I do not
care about the permutations of fragrance.
Most old school shave soap brands seem to have fragrance in check.
My only "but" is the size and shape of the larger puck.

Jerry, I just ordered some today from Men's Room Barber.
They give a pretty good description of the scent in the product listing.
I had to try it just because it's Castle & Forbes.
Its got to be good!!
