Thread: My Top Five
-

Couple of years ago, Mitchell's Wool Fat would have been #1 or #2, at least a huge presence in Top 5 yet not one appearance so far.
Personally, while I like it, it's a solid Tier 2 at best for me....who'd a thunk it???

Here ya go Phrank....
1. Mitchell's Wool Fat
2. Le Pere Lucien
3. Tabac
4. Shannon's Shave Soap
5. Los Angles Shaving Soap
(6. MDC Martin De Candre)
I am still looking for something to take down MWF. I love the scent. I find it extremely easy to whip up rich thick gobs of lather, it performs wonderfully, last forever, and the after shave feel closes the deal for me.What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Yeah. I don't pay much attention to these Soap threads because they are either the "flavor of the day" or personal subjectivity.
My favorite cologne from high school is not my favorite today. Same with soap. Tastes change. There are many choices. Everyone is different. I think MdC is a great soap but didn't live up to the hype for me. I found it a simple soap that left my face dry with a scent I didn't care for. Others will shave with nothing else. These soap threads are interesting conversations (at best) but nothing else. No top of the top or best of the best.Last edited by Steel; 04-24-2017 at 03:12 AM.

Personally I like these threads. It introduces soaps I may have never heard of, or have seen and only thought about.

For me personally and in no particular order. I don't think I could pick a favourite I need them all!
Penhalligans soaps all flavours
Truefitt & Hill 1805 cream (definitely not their soaps though)
Tabac soap
D.R. Harris soaps all flavours
Castle Forbes (in particular Lime cream)Fact: Opinions are not the same as facts... Well, that's my opinion anyway

Thanked: 3225Yes, everyone is different when it comes to what they like and dislike so there is a hefty dose of YMMV in all this best of thing.
Personally I generally don't have overly sensitive skin and scent is not a huge factor either so long as I don't gag on the scent like I do with Cella and Vitos Red. That is not to say those two don't produce an excellent lather for me. I'm also tighter than skin on a wiener so price is a factor for me. That said, off the top of my head and in no particular order, these would be the soaps/creams that I could easily use exclusively that fit my criteria for excellent soaps/creams.
Arko shave stick
Palmolive shave stick
Tabac puck/shave stick
Maca Root shave cream
Haslingers Honig
There are just so many soaps and creams out there today that work well it is impossible to try them all. For the most part I have given up on that.

Oh yes. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy reading about people's experiences with different soaps too. When I said I don't "pay much attention" to these threads I meant I don't put much stock in others ranking since it can change literally from one day to the next. Phranks observation of MWF not even being mentioned where a couple years ago it would have been all over supports this. my reference to MdC is not to "knock" the soap. It is obviously a very fine soap indeed. It is just not for me.
I know some don't mind paying for a soap that is head and shoulders above the rest. I, like bobh, do factor in price. I enjoy MWF but if the price went up I would buy something else as there are just way too many great soaps out there.
So, to reiterate, I enjoy reading these threads but for informational purposes and not to try to determine what is the best since it is my best only and that is subject to change at any time.

My list: Castle Forbes Lime, D. R. Harris Arlington soap, and Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet cream . Only three, I know, but these are definitely replace soaps. D. R. Harris Windsor soap, Tabac, and the Palmolive Soap Stick are runners up in my rotation. I have yet to try MDC, XPEC, Baume.be, Czech & Speake, etc.
