MWF is like Bob Dylan and the VW Bug. People either love it and want to marry it or they absolutely loath it. I don't know what it is about it. For some reason it is very polarizing.

See I never had that trouble with Mitchell's either. All I do is put tap water in the mug, as hot as it will get, to just covering the soap before I get in the shower then after I get out of the shower I wet the brush with the water and pour the rest off after. I never really clocked it but that's probably 10 minutes I let it soak, maybe 15 if I hang out and luxuriate under the hot water longer than usual. It is true that it's not a real super lathery soap but even when the foaminess subsides a little it still stays very slick for me.

I'm interested.
What makes a top tieir soap?
Is it the price or the lather?
I have some expensive stuff that lathers half as well as some of my cheaper stuff.- - Steve

I never consider price, always the performance, MWF just works extremely well for me.
Better than anything else. I dig it.

Rod over at Sterling makes a good mid level soap, lots of scents, his Pig Trail is my favorite. I only buy the bath bar now. Like most Artisnal soaps scent seems to be the priority. It lathers well yet and does the job. Now MWF hasn’t been around this long without being a great soap. It’s not my go to yet I keep it in the den.
When breaking in a new brush I use it, it’s just a great lather. I’ve never understood how some can’t get a good lather off it, it may be in the hands of the brush holder, I’ve used it in every water situation the country has to offer and it worked. The after skin feel is great. This all to say, I don’t really use it, I’m a one soap guy now , but I keep it, cause just like a couple weeks ago I ran out, so opened my old dryer out cracked cake of MWF a little water on top while I showered and it was just as good as when I used it 3 years ago“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Gentlemen,
Mitchell's Wool Fat has always made lather for me. No problem. It's a good soap, and I think every shave den should have it. I use it occasionally.
I continue to trim my soap and cream supply, though, to rely only on Martin de Candre and Castle Forbes. I think my friend TC has headed in that direction, too.
After trying hundreds of soaps and creams, nothing comes near the quality of Martin de Candre and Castle Forbes. For me, anyway. Expensive, yes, but a little goes a long way. Most of all, I really do like these two.
Castle Forbes 1445 and Martin de Candre Fougere are all I need, and want. Good stuff.

Thanked: 3225Like most things in life you probably pay much more to gain that little 5% in performance which you may or may not notice. Being cheap I look at the price to performance ratio as I personally don't notice that little extra performance paying more may bring. That is why I use Ach Brito Lavanda over CF Lavender. Having had both, I can't say I notice much of a performance difference if any and the Ach Brit Lavanda is half the price. To me that is what makes a top tier soap/cream, a combination of both performance and price.
