Thanked: 137Mine arrived today from BullGoose Shaving (great guy, can't say enough good things about him). The scent was everything I remember from watching my dad get ready when I was a kid - he would use Tabac if he was going out to something important or on a rare night out with mum, away from us kids. I personally think it smells great, but can see why people think it smells like old ladies. Can't wait to lather it up and have a shave with it (I swore to myself I wouldn't shave until the order arrived and until my new razor arrives - can't be far away now, so should be shaving with it within the next few days). Will update with my thoughts on the slick etc once I've used it as it's intended.

Thanked: 25...
I am so curious about the smell of this stuff now. Perhaps I can be put on the list to receive the sample pack that's floating around.
The love/hate level with this is amazing, I MUST KNOW WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE.

Colleen's Cavendish is the best "tobacco" scent around.
If she makes a single note scent I will look into it, but ONLY if it does not smell like that.
So far in my time of shaving I have come across two scents that make me want to run. Aqua Velva (Yeah I know start a thread already) and Tabac / Alt Innsbruck.
Nancy Boy I like because it is close in smell to Proraso that I do not mind it. Plus it has awesome characteristics.
I am glad that Chris, 1 did not die and 2 that his SO did not throw him out of the house until he stopped wreaking.
Colleen, my heart goes out to you. I hope that your sensitive nose will not wilt in the presence of such a nauseating smell.

Tabac is my go to soap when I test the edge the first time on a new razor or re hone one in my rotation. With Tabac I know my beard is prepped and ready for lift off. I guess I'm sort of neutral on the smell, but the lather is great and this in an inexpensive soap.

Thanked: 953I love the smell of TABAC. For one brief moment in the morning, I feel like John Travolta preparing to put on a leisure suit and head out to a cheap disco.

Thanked: 137I just used it for the first time - thick, slick lather. The scent got stronger and a little different when I lathered it up, almost got unpleasant, but just managed to stay on the good side of it. The lather more than made up for that though, and Tabac is definitely in my rotation to stay.

Is TABAC as good as CF?
I love the CF that I have and will be ordering more of it, but do you guys think it is as good?

Thanked: 1212In my experience,
there 's soaps and there's creams.
Tabac may be the Castle Forbes of the soaps, meaning one of the very best.
But creams do bring more luxury to a shave. Both in scents available as in comfort of a shave.
As a guy that uses soaps 90% of the time, I make the above statement.
I don't think soaps compare to creams, or vice versa.
It would be like comparing milkshake to ice cream.
Best regards,
Bart.

With all due respect and as much I like Tabac, I must completely disagree with this statement. This comparison is simply unfair, even if differences in performance between soaps and creams is taken into account. Tabac is an excellent soap from the performance standpoint but it is a mass produced product that provides little to no benefits for the skin. It is also made with a fragrance oils. Castle Forbes (CF) on the other hand, belongs to a unique class of products that excels in performance in all areas. It is also made with essential oils and other botanicals that not only help the shave but also the skin. Unlike Tabac, CF is a high end product. There are a few examples of soaps that could be included in the same category as CF but Tabac is, unfortunately, not one of them.
