I gotta ask, what is it about Tabac?
I received a small sample of the stuff and it smells like my grandmother's Avon perfume, for that matter it smells like my grandmother.
Why does this stuff have such a nasty smell? Alt Innsbruck is the same way. When people say that this stuff has a tobacco smell, I am thinking great a Virginia Burley smell not some nasty stanky flowers.
Can someone explain this?

Thanked: 13245Obviously with that scent, it must have something else going for it????
Hmmmmm could it be that the stuff lathers into a thick creamy frosting that actually helps the shave....YEPPERS thats it alright...

So if a product whips into a wonderful face hugging lather people would use it the smell is discounted?
I am gonna have to say no.
If it stinks, it goes no where but the back of the closet.

Thanked: 1212I grated mine, mixed it half and half with a $4 Palmolive shave stick (that's actually the most underestimated shave soap) and pushed the mixture in a bowl. The resulting smell is far less offensive (actually nice being far less poignant), and the performance it equally great. It's my "through the week" shaving soap.

Thanked: 1903It's genetic. Doesn't make the miasma any less intrusive. Horrible stuff.

The efficacy of that soap really must be so profound that to those who don't like the smell grit their teeth and ignore it. One member says he literally and honestly has gag reflexes when he uses it but still loves it.
I've smelled the stuff but have never used it. I found the smell offensive. But, I was honestly thinking earlier this week of buying some to try the shaves!

I haven't smelled it, but the floral scent may be what is known as "Lakeland" in the tobacco world...kind of a flowery scent put in some flakes.

Thanked: 43Pulling back the foil from a new puck of Tabac is the equivalent of a nasal mugging on the subway to hell. But after it's breathed overnight and a lather made I find the scent to be less obtrusive and different and I like it. My wife liked it and kept walking into my bathroom to grab a whiff the first week or so. Her hot friend Rose liked the scent so well she picked up a puck and brush to use to shave her legs. I really fight the urge to think of anything else it might be used for by her.
Anyway it's a like it or hate it kind of scent. But the lather is something we can all agree on.

I love the smell of Tabac. In a way, it's nostalgic for me in the same way as Old Spice. At the same time, I can't stand most of the "modern" scents you come across at department stores. They all have same overbearing smell. Colognes like Polo or Drakkar make me want to puke. They remind me of parachute pants and mullets.
