Finally jumped on the proraso bandwagon. I picked up the shaving cream and aftershave, as well as the boar brush. I also picked up some JR Watkins lavender essential oil to replace my AOS pre-shave oil that I love so much. The JR Watkins smells the same, but isnt quite as thick which is nice. And its 9.00 for 8oz while AOS is 22.00 for 2oz!

Anyway, The proraso brush is great even though it sheds a bit and still smells awful, but that should subside soon. The proraso cream and aftershave was great and refreshing on a hot day, but it gace me a pretty bad rash on my neck which I have NEVER had before after shaving so Im not sure what the deal is with that. I may not use it again, in which case I'll have some free proraso for whomever wants it. Has this happened to anyone else?

    JL,

It hasn't happened to me, but products with menthol can irritate some folks. I would be irritated if I couldn't use it! Give it a few days to clear up and recover, then try it without the pre-shave treatment. It could have been a reaction between the two items. Also, since you were using a boar brush which is very stiff, the irritation could have been from the brush. Several factors there to rule out.

Actually this happened while using the badger brush, but I will try again without the pre-shave oil. I hadnt thought about that, thanks for the tip!

    JL,

Shaving is a bit like real estate. Instead of "location, location, location", look at "variable, variable, variable". If you change more that one thing at at time, and have bad results, you don't know the culprit. But like anything in life, go back to the basics, make one change at a time, and then you can understand what it going on.

    Randy,

That is so true. Its like you think you have honing down because you have done one perfectly then the next is for s*#t. Everything here can be different. It's like what did I do differently this time.

    Okay,
I jumped on the Proraso wagon as well. Wednesday night I got the tube cream and tried it Thursday morning. Nice stuff but a little sticky, very much like the Bigelows tube cream at Bath & Body works and a similar scent with the Eucalyptus/Menthol thing going on.
After reading apost about the tub soap I stopped in a different Target Friday night and got the tub and the Creme aftershave. I liked this much better, firm, but not fully hard. Worked great with a 15yo Crabtree & Evelyn Badger/Bristle blend brush I had.

As for finding it, you need to search. In the first Target the Spa/Cosmtics aisles are right next to the other toiletries aisles. In the second Target the Spa stuff is on the opposite side of the store near the watches, handbags, etc... with the cosmetic items, far from the other toiletries. That entire target was laid out differently than the first.

I have several of the Omega brushes already as a dealer for Wm. Marvy I got to try them all. Way bigger than most boar brushes and way smellier too <g>. Once they settle down though they are great.

I had to go to 3 different Targets before I found it. None of the employees knew what I was talking about. I found it by accident in a Target 30 miles away as I was on my way out of the store, ticked off that I wasted all that gas looking for shaving stuff. Guess what, once I found out what section it was in, I stopped at the Target 2 miles from my home and there it was.

I love the pre-shave and the after shave lotion. I'm not impressed with the shaving cream though. It was too much trouble getting the lather the right texture. My Vulvix tub cream and Classic Shaving mug soap are perfect every time with the Badger brush. I had to keep adding water or cream to get the Proraso right. The whole prep for a good shave is hard enough without having to fight with the lather. I take the tube cream with me when I travel though.
This is just my experience with it though, it probably is good cream if I just worked a little harder at it.

Glad you found it. Its not the Prorasos fault though. Its your experience with some other product or the simplicity of the soap. The amount of cream and the amount of water used to make a lather is a variable in all cream mixtures. Instead of adding water to the brush try putting a specific amount of water into your bowl and add an almond size squeeze of product to the bowl and stir it up. When you can look in the bowl and actually see the amount of water your using it helps alot (as opposed to whats in the brush)
