Thread: Unlocking the secret... modern Williams Mug soap exposed to awesome lather.

I to use Williams, its cheap and it works and as you see above makes one heck of a lather when prepared properly. Coffee sized mugs don't seem to work well with it, at least for me. I picked up a wide mouth cappucino mug, just a plain white one at Target for around $4.00 and what a difference.

Just throw hot water in the mug with the soap let it sit while I wash my face and strop the ole razor, dump the water fill it up just below the puck top and away we go. I end up with more lather than I need for a complete shave and I lather up frequently. Hell, if the little woman comes in next time maybe I'll lather her up and slide her out the door. LOL. Just kidding, I wouldn't have anybody to get the mail during the the day. Wouldn't want anybody stealing my razor goodies. LOL

Glad to see your finally getting to enjoy a good product at a pretty darn good price. Keep your Razor sharp and your mind sharper.

Rook here. I too had bad results with Williams years ago (like 30...) Been using Real Shaving Co. Shaving cream with mug/brush since joining the board here a month ago. Got a puck of Williams tonight and experimented and ded-gum! OP wasn't kidding about Meringue sized/consistency suds! Can't wait for my SuperSpeed to arrive in the mail, sick of the cartridges.

I apologize for having ever complained about Williams. I can't believe how much water that took.

Even though I didn't like Williams till now, I did buy two pucks at Kroger one day. They were on sale for 69 cents so I just couldn't help myself. Now I can use them and finish off the older puck I already had. That's a lot of shaves for less than $1.50! Today I shaved and then my boy shaved with the same bowl of lather. Stayed good through two passes with a straight and his regular shave and had plenty good lather left. Still can't say its my favorite soap but I will use it now.

Now that you got that figured out... Try it before your shower, and let it settle while you shower and do your pre-shave, then give it a final whip before shaving.

I just bought a puck of this at CVS to give it a try. The scent is fantastic. I was extremely surprised with how good it smelled because I was really expecting something very mild and soapy, which is actually something I enjoy. This has somewhat of a sweet scent with a hint of soap underneath. Very nice.

Thoughts regarding water needed: when I pulled it out of the box, I noticed that it felt "dry." I know my experience with soap is limited, but other soaps I've tried (up to 3 now) felt soapy/slick to my hand. This felt more like plastic. Does old-formula Williams have the same kind of feel?

Really, not that hard to figure out. Third time trying to get it to lather. Keep in mind, this is the ONLY shaving soap I have every used. Only the third time I tried to get a decent lather from anything.

I stocked up on three more pucks from the local grocery because they were 1$ a piece. I have only been using this soap since posting the original post and don't know if I will ever try anything else (YEAH RIGHT).
now my Proraso, Klar Kabinett, tabac, Cella, and arko are sitting on the shelves.

My favorite part of the new Williams is that it is VERY slick on your face. It leaves a watery, light film on your face under the lather and for your last pass you can blade buff aggressively under your chin even with a straight razor. Other soaps I love don't leave that slick film I am digging right now.

Old williams lathers like a modern "high end" soap, like Tabac or what have you. The old pucks have a similar feel and look but is different, hard to explain. You can find them on ebay for like 6$ if you're ever curious to try the old formulas.

This is almost there, just maybe needs a pinch more water in the start and more whipping. You can shave with that fine but I have been getting thicker lather.

Okay, I have been using Williams for about a year now. In the beginning I had difficulties lathering Williams. After deciding to use a boar-brush it worked; the lather wasn'nt thick and rich, and tended to dry on the skin, but it worked.

Yesterday was the day I tried your method of lathering and... WOW! BOOM! There it was. A huge amount of thick and rich lather, which did neither dry, nor disappear.

Take 1 Cheese Grater and 1 puck of Williams
Grate the entire puck and press the shavings into your soap mug or bowl with your thumbs and some wax paper

This makes Williams, MWF, in fact any Triple milled soap lather fast and easy,,,

I grate the MWF and keep the shavings in one of those cheap sugar bowls. I just sprinkle some shavings in the bottom of my G5 and add water. I never could get the puck to work right.
