Grating the Williams should help in loading the brush.

I used the advice here today after being directed here by a very helpful member and also being told about the basic concept by another and WOW what a diffrence. This stuff comes to absolute life when given enough water. I have been straight shaving for just 3 shaves and todays lather was the best and lo and behold todays shave was the best so far. I was actually considering chunking the puck of Williams that i had but now, no way! Just want to say thanks to this community as i am learning a ton and falling more and more in love with straigh shaving!

Well, I certainly learned something here. I tried Williams several times over the past few years and never thought it would even make decent hand soap. Now I'm going to have to get out the old puck and give it a try. Good excuse to bring out the long-handle Omega boar brush, too.

    Thanks for this thread!

Tried my Williams today. Soaked the puck in piping hot water during shower. Drained and left about 1/8 cup of the soapy water in the bowl. Took my long-handle Omega boar brush, loaded the bristles and started working it.

    Unbelievable.

After dissing this stuff for so long, I couldn't believe how quickly and how well it lathered up. I lifted the brush out of the bowl, and it looked like I was holding a big soft-serve ice cream cone!

    Thanks for the tip, Disburden!

I took your advice with the Williams soap this morning, and NO kidding! rich, thick, and moist lather the entire shave and then some. I had some issues though that i never thought id have because it never happened before. The soap sucked the life out of my skin and by the end of my third pass(second pass i felt itching irritation so i applied shave oil first and then lather for my third pass) my beard was a ball of fire so to speak. this was my closest shave yet, cream or otherwise though i think if this occurs again ill have to drop the williams and either find a more gentle soap or stick to the creams

I'm looking forward to trying it tomorrow. if I soak the brush and puck though I end up with the puck "running" away from the brush. The bowl is too big I suppose.

    Glue it down first! Lol

Use enough water to make a big splash but make sure notntonlose any in the sink.
