I could never figure out the whys and wherefores of what gets imported where or not. Total puzzle to me. We had a quick visit to friends in Surrey on a stop over and forgot to look for Palmolive and Erasmic which I would like to try. We live in a smaller city so Online is about the only way to try other stuff but shipping kills the deal unless it is bundled with a larger order for free shipping. Speaking of running I think I'll have a shave and waddle down for morning coffee. The daily ritual of a retiree. Enjoy your visit home. I had a lot of good times on the Island too many years ago when in the Navy.

Hmm, only just noticed this for some reason. Had a great trip home thanks and managed to get some old school classics like Aquavelva and similar, even a puck of Williams as that's what I started with years ago. Shame you missed out on Erasmic and Palmolive at 50 pence a stick, pm me if you haven't found a fix yet.
Think my next shave will be Kaloderma after going back through this thread, re-located my shave den to my cellar and started using a WWII German mess tin to lather and shave out of. Would be fitting to use the Kaloderma in it. Yar!

Getting on to this thread a bit late, I know...
Yep, both Nivea and Kaloderma are pretty big in both Greece and (my native) Cyprus. My father swears by them when he goes back to Cyprus.
Nivea is as well known as Coca Cola in those countries. Kaloderma is well respected, probably because the name in Greek literally means "good skin", so it's a good marketing/selling point.
It does by definition, I suppose, but you really have to look hard for them. Tabac for instance is available widely in pharmacies, but only the smaller chains and these are not everywhere. You can expect to pay widely varying prices as well...
Quite right. Palmolive and Wilkinsons are in abundance, but Erasmic and Ingrams not so much and only in places like SuperDrug (for Ingrams) or smaller pharmacies for Erasmic.
It seems that Nivea (shave cream) and Kaloderma are very close to each other and I wouldn't be surprised if they were made by one and the same. Shame they are not more widely available in the world. They are both made in Germany as far as I know.

Thanked: 5I tried Kaloderma on its own and was not impressed. Yesterday, I used it together with the lavender glycerin soap from Bulk Barn and was very impressed. That said, I don't have a lot of experience with wet shaving.

Mein Deutcsh ist schlecht and so is my German spelling but you get the drift. Don't know what they are saying. Interesting though, I hope they have a good supply here in Canada then.

Thanks for giving me the gist of it. As the tube says "Made in Germany", I find it hard to believe that they would do separate production runs using a different formula for their domestic market and one for the export market. Stranger things have happened though and they could just be right about that. In doing a search I did find a site that sells WWII original German military items. That site advertised for sale an issue metal container of Kaloderma believe it or not. Must be pretty funky by now but shows how popular it must have been even back then to be an issue item.

Nice looking kit you have. That Kaloderma tube sure looks different from what we get here in Canada.
