Thanks for the photos, I can't believe you guys drive a big rig in weather like this. I bet you never have to stop for gas, just tap into the big tank and roll.....!!!

I understand about taking pictures and driving. I do the same. I'm driving a smooth bore trailer, like the milkman. Feel the surge, baby. Bam!

A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

Thats correct. Got stuck in the mountains. All ways out were socked in by avalanches. Was able to back track a few miles and find a room for the night. It takes the fun out of it but thats how it goes in the winters driving the great rocky mountains. Im now back in colorado springs so ill make it home tonight.
I enjoy the fact i have compartments and baffles. I still feel the surge but i dont get the Bam! People living in the mountains need fuel so i take it there. And then theres the skiers. They are a pain in my backside. No respect for a big truck. Ill hold my tougue on this one.Last edited by Gasman; 01-11-2017 at 05:43 PM.

There's nothing like the BAM! Feels like you were hit by a freight train from the rear. Early on, you look around and say, what the hell was that? But you get used to it.

While the type of fuel delivery rig that gasman drives doesn't allow that, I have a friend who retired from driving a Propane Delivery Truck and his fuel came directly from the tank that was used to deliver to homes, service stations etc.
In fact he once had to deny a service station as much propane as they wanted as he needed to be sure that there was enough to get him back to the company's yard which was about 70-80 miles away. That was during the 4th of July week and the station ran out of propane and the owner of the station wasn't happyOur house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

The fuel in my trailer has been bought buy a corporation before it even gets put in the trailer. And every bit of it is tracked and accounted for. So i cant tap into it or pinch out a little for the truck. Most the time im hauling gas and that wouldnt work to well in my truck. I do haul diesel, jet fuel, av gas, ethanol, but mainly gas.
Im so used to the surge that the o ly time i really notice it is when i get out of the truck and look at it shifting back and forth. No thank you on the BAM! But ive herd stories. It's just Sharpening, right?

Long story but I ran a propane truck out of fuel one day, much different than a gas or diesel rig.
I was working for a water well company and they had a couple of propane trucks. very few places to fuel them. It was winter time and we were drilling a test well at an old landfill in winter. We left the shop in the morning and I went to sleep as we left the shop. I was a helper and the foreman was driving. He forgot to check the fuel. He realized that it was near empty when we got to the job sight. We had a 12 cylinder diesel on the rig and it took all day to get it started and the pumps thawed out. We told the boss to let us idle it over night but he made us shut it down. Lucky to get 1/2 hour of productive work in a day....
I was told to drive it into town and see if I could find some fuel. They don't run out of fuel like a gas truck but they slow down. A couple of miles out of town it was only doing about 5 MPH with the pedal to the floor. I remember -70' f for temp but must have been the windchill. It was before cell phones and I got a ride to town. And called the boss. I won't repeat what he said! He got a hold of a local home delivery guy but he gave him grief because he didn't collect road taxes. I don't know what bribe/extra cost it took and he delivered it anyway on the side of the road.
Long darn day and we got nothing done. It was my fault because I was driving when it ran out.... The boss was a jerk and although I liked the work I didn't last long at that job.

I don’t deal with surge in the trailer or mountains (usually). Here’s what I drive.

Here is a pic of something that Slim never sees. I just had to rub it in one more time driver.
My truck isn't govern as bad as a Walmart truck.
Looking for a pic of my new truck. Mine is black now days.
2020 Kenworth truck and a 2020 Heil Trailer. Yep, Im still spoiled. But this one doesnt have all the stupid warning buzzers and wont break on its own!
Thanks for bringing up this old thread Slim. It's just Sharpening, right?
