Thanked: 156Ar you guys sure that the handle is from the maker and not a modification made by the reseller...it kind of does not fit in with the traditional design

I believe you are right about the spelling also. When I said I liked the new logo I was talking about the design of it. I also believe that the handle is made by Mr. Kanoyama.

Thanked: 104I also saw it and whilst the handle is new and different, I wonder why they changed the spelling and didn't use the normally spelled Kanayama stamp. We know it's history, and I wonder if some outside input may have affected this change, in both the spelling, stamp and handle. I would have thought they would add a handle to a higher end strop, rather than the virtually lowest of their range. I personally don't want a handle on my Kanayamas, but that's for the individuals taste. It will be interesting to see if future batches of the whole range, come with the different stamp and spelling.

Gentlemen,
I am not sure what to make of the skinny handle on this legendary barber style strop. I have always fancied barber style strops (without a handle) and this new contraption on the Kanayama (the original spelling was Kanoyama) violates that tradition. I also think it cheapens the strop. Some things should be left alone. OY!

Thanked: 66personally, i love the strop but felt very uncomfortable using a claw grip so i added d-rings to my kanayama. now its entirely my choice how to make use of it to its best advantage.
as long as the excellent quality remains there is nothing wrong with a little change hes just offering one more option for those who prefer handles. imho.

Thanked: 104After considering this new strop with the handle, I mention that it, being a two piece strop ie. Canvas and cordovan. Well, on all my Kanayamas the canvas is 65mm thick, and the Cordovan and the suede if you have it are all 68mm in width. I ask the question are both pieces of this new strop the same width? Have they shortened the width of the cordovan surface to 65mm, in order to have both pieces clamped at the handle, identical in width? I looked at the imagery of this strop on the Fendrihan site, and it is clear both pieces are identical in width, so, either they have introduced a new 3mm wider canvas piece, or they have cut down the width of the cordovan surface. Fendrihans described the width of the product as 68mm. So if anyone has one of these, let us all know what the actual dimensions of this strop are. If they have taken 3 mm off the width of the cordovan surface then this in my eyes a major drawback for this strop.
I sent an email to Fendrihans asking about the dimensions, so I'll update, if no member has one.

I can say that the old man is still handleing it. I believe. I just bought the 70000 model without a handle and had many emails back and forth with him. Well, he always signed with his name takishi. Unless someone was using his name. Thats always possible. Got a question to those that have these strops but will start a new thread as i dont want to be rude.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 104Gasman, the fellow you mention is Takeshi Aoki, the proprietor of AframesTokyo, based in Hawaii. He is a retailer of the Kanayama range, same as Fendrihans are. I have bought a Kanayama from him too, an #80000, but as to his involvement in the company, I don't believe he has any direct managerial role in the Kanoyama company.
Gasman, did your #70000 come with the miss spelling stamp in gold leaf at the bottom of the strop? All my Kana's have the gold leaf stamp at the base, using the Kanayama spelling.
