Is the poly webbing the same kind of thing used in guitar straps? because i have an unused one that could be repurposed

It's probably close enough to get the job done. I would start very lightly with it and see what happens.

The guitar straps and the seat belts are a finer weave than the poly webbing we use, but people have said that they work.

    Have fun,

I just received the Lynn Abrams paddle strop from SRD. I must say that it is impressive. Good craftsmanship. I have one question. Does the smooth leather strop need any type of preparation prior actually stropping a razor on it? Thanks.

If the SRD paddle is the same as the SRD modular paddle, no treatment is needed. I heat my mod paddle up with a bit of hand rubbing first. It helps the draw on the Premium I leather.

    Good luck.

I ordered a rich man strop from whippeddog.com and it has this poly webbing in addition to the leather strop. This thread is old and I'm wondering what people think about abrasives to use on the poly webbing strop? I have diamond spray and CBN sprays under 1 micron. Will a .25 or .5 micron spray work well on the poly strop? I also have a little .3 micron chromium oxide and .1 micron iron oxide powders. I think you mix these with oil then apply it.

I appreciate any suggestions about using the poly webbing strop.

From what I have read, the sprays seem to do much better on a felt surface, and the pastes (poweder and oil) do better on the webbing. I only have expereince with the diamonds spray on felt, but I have really liked it.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

+1 for diamond spray and felt. I have had good success refreshing my edges with this setup.

Other than it's distinctive sound, it has been a hit across the board and virtually every strop maker out there has added it to their strops now. Nuttin' wrong with the cottons, linen or felt. Lots of versatility and personal preference involved.

Question about abrasives on the poly webbing strop. I got the rich man's strop from whippeddog.com and it has the webbing. I'd appreciate a recommendation on what if anything to apply to the poly webbing strop. I'll list the things I have now that I would consider using.

    CBN .1 micron spray
    CBN .5 micron spray
    diamond spray .25 micron

I also have some chromium oxide .3 micron powder that I would need to mix with oil prior to applying. Also some iron oxide .1 micron powder.

I have a feeling that any of the things I have would work and I'd get different answers from different people based on personal preference and experience. One thing I've considered is that if I start with .1 micron I could later apply the .25 or .5 micron sprays. The coarser grit abrasive would have it's effect as if the finer grit abrasive weren't there. But, applying the .5 micron spray first would eliminate being able to try the lower micron sprays.

The finest grit stone I have is a Shapton glass 16k stone. I don't know if that matters when choosing an abrasive. As far as grit goes I'm thinking the poly webbing strop should be somewhere between the finest grit stone a person has and the leather strop with no abrasive. If I'm thinking about that wrong please let me know. I may be overthinking this but once I apply something it won't come off (as far as I know). Or, can the poly webbing be used as a coarser strop than the leather without any abrasive at all? Any help with this I appreciate.

Plus One: The .5 diamond spray works well on the felt pads.
