Thanked: 0Tony Miller, Kanayama, SRD?
I need a good strop, one that will last. What is your opinion? I'm not necessarily looking for the best deal, just the best piece of equipment for my needs. I'm a dialy shaver and would like to not have to purchase another strop for a long time. I know very little about these brands but I am learning a lot from my searching. I'm just looking for personal opinions and experience at this point. What's the best and why?
Thanks, ~J. Babcock

Thanked: 13245I have one of each,, at this level there is no Bad Product, so you have to decide by your own personal opinion, which appleals to you aesthetically..
For funcuntion, all of them in this class work way better then needed, so which one looks better to you, which has the featues that you like, which has the leather, linen, cotton, that appeals to you..
Do you like handles, D rings, vintage set ups???? Are repaclement parts available, should you have an accident, this is not a $40 strop that you just toss aside...
When I say "this class" I am talking in the price range you are looking at, as $100 + Super Premium strops

Neil Miller will make you a world class strop to your spec's with what he has available. It will be a museum quality piece of workmanship and it will be worth the money you spend. Kanayama's once impeccable strops are a bit off from the perfect specimens that were available when they were distributed though Jim Rion. SRD's strops are very fair priced, made extremely well and will provide stropping for several generations if taken care of.
My choice: A Neil Miller (just to hold and gaze at if not to use)
And at least two SRD strops to do all the heavy lifting and provide you a touch of variety. Enjoy!
Just my 2 cents. : )Bob

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I have 2 of the 3 you're asking about they're both worth the price. Let us know which one you decide to go with.

Again, All 3 are good. I own several of each. Kanayama is expensive and are shipped from Japan.
Tony Miller makes a good strop if you can catch him open, and with stock
SRD has great strops, and the prices are low for the quality you get. If your a proficient stropper, and not learning, or in danger of tearing it up, I'd highly recommned SRD's Premium 1. Not too much draw, and not slick like horsehide. The Premium 1 is supple. It's a great strop. One of my favorites, next to my Horsehide, which is slick, no draw.
SRD always has stock, and it'll ship Priority, you'll have it in 3 days. If you need some specific draw, more or less, Send Don an email, and he'll answer you quickly. We have assumed control !

I have some of all 3 and I agree you won't go wrong with any of them. Just research the features and looks and buy the one that speaks to you.

Thanked: 1195I was under the impression that Kanayama strops were no longer being made. You do see used ones up for sale from time to time though.

I have a barber end TM latigo/linen. It is the only hanging strop I own. I can vouch that the TM components and workmanship are all 1st class. Why take less when you can get one of the best for only a bit more money than average?
